Robotics

On Saturday, January 15 two of our robotics teams competed in the VEX Robotics Tournament hosted by the Indian Prairie School District in Naperville, IL.  One of the teams, 499Z, took the first seed as they finished with a 6-1-0 record during the qualifying rounds.  After a dramatic finish in the finals (which you can watch HERE), they emerged as the tournament champions!  Our other team, 499G, is a rookie team that won two matches in their debut competition.  Though they didn't make it to the finals, they were able to compete in all of their matches and will hopefully use what they've learned in future competitions.

Both teams, along with the rest of our robotics teams, will be competing again on Sunday, February 13th as they host a tournament here at Mundelein High School!  We are looking forward to seeing you there to support our students.

5Essentials Parent Survey

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.

These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.

We value your opinions about the operations of the high school and are looking for your input. This is your chance to provide input concerning your children’s education. MHS benefits from a strong response rate from parents in order for us to access to the data from the survey. The survey is available to MHS parents now and the deadline to complete the survey is March 22 but we encourage you to complete it as soon as you can.

Diversity Awareness and Affirmation SEL Presentation

On January 25, 2022, your student will view the fifth of eight wellness-related presentations this school year. This month’s presentation serves as an introduction to research-based information about diversity awareness and affirmation. Learning and practicing these strategies and skills are essential for growth in individuals. Conversations about diversity benefit school culture, the community, as well as global humanity. At the end of the presentation are numerous resources available to all. You may access this presentation in your student’s MHS email, on the D120 website, the D120 Facebook page, and the Principal’s Blog. Please send immediate questions or concerns to Krysta Penuel, School Psychologist.

Girls Basketball:

5-11 overall, 2-6 in North Suburban Conference

Injuries, illness, games postponed or canceled have taken a toll on this group, but our girls have stayed resilient: keeping positive attitudes and continuing to be coachable. Recently we had a games competition practice, team lunch at Portillo’s, and bowling. It was fun to see the girls laugh and enjoy each other during a season filled with so much adversity.
