To Our D75 and D120 Families:

This message is to let you know that both districts are planning for full, in-person school attendance for the 2021-2022 school year. The number of students who participate in remote learning will directly impact the instructional program that our districts offer.

To help us with our planning for next year, we are asking parents/guardians to let us know if you plan to request remote learning if your child meets the CDC criteria:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/index.html

Program details and the process for applying to participate will be provided in the near future. At that time, you will be asked to provide a firm commitment for the 2021-2022 school year. Please keep in mind that new guidelines may be in place before the beginning of next school year.

Please provide your feedback by Tuesday, May 4, 2021 by using this form: https://forms.gle/ybDQyPJEmGShvJdr9  This is a Google Form. If you do not have a Google account, you can complete the survey by using the Chromebook issued to your children:

National Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is important for all individuals to understand mutual respect and consent, what makes a healthy relationship, how to practice safety in the community, and what to do if you or someone you know has experienced sexual violation. These topics of sexual consent and sexual violence are extremely complex. This presentation serves as an introduction to some things you need to know and reflect on as teens and adults. At the end of the presentation are numerous resources available to all. As a reminder, all MHS staff members are mandated reporters. This means that if any harm has been done to a student or there is threat of harm done to a student, the staff member will inform necessary people who can support the student. Please send immediate questions or concerns to: kpenuel@d120.org

MHS earns national ranking from US News & World Report
For the third year in a row, Mundelein High School has earned high National and metro-area rankings in 2021 Best High Schools, which US News recently released. By earning a national ranking Mundelein High School achieved status as a US News Best High School and gained eligibility to display a US News-trademarked 2021 Best High Schools award badge. Only “Best” high schools may use an official US News Best High Schools badge. Many schools display these badges to enhance school spirit and to maintain attendance levels that are often crucial to obtaining adequate state funding.

In addition to the badge, US News publishes detailed school-specific information on enrollment, graduation rates, student body demographics, location, school type and results of state assessments as well as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate test scores. The Best High Schools rankings, available online only, are produced in conjunction with RTI International, a global research firm. US News doesn’t collect data directly from high schools – all data comes directly from official third-party sources. US News receives AP and IB data directly from the College Board and International Baccalaureate, respectively, for use in the rankings. The state assessment data and graduation rates are from each state and other data comes from the US Department of Education Common Core of Data.

“Once again, Mundelein High School has shown the community and the state that it is a stand-out high school in Illinois and the country,” said Districts 75 and 120 Superintendent Kevin Myers. “We are proud of our students, staff, families and community for all the support they have provided over the years and we continue to be committed to providing a top-notch education for all our students now and in the future,” Myers concluded.

Mundelein High School FBLA Competes at Virtual State Leadership Conference
Mundelein High School’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America competed at the Illinois State Leadership Conference, held as a virtual event this year, throughout March and April, 2021.
A total of 20 Mundelein FBLA students competed this year, and similarly to the Area competition, students were tested remotely, while others presented their event live via Zoom with judges present.

“It’s so amazing to see how well our students stepped up to the unique challenge of competing virtually this year. Our students worked very hard to prepare for their events, and it shows in the results. We are really proud of their efforts,” said Sarah Wilson, who advises the group along with Chris Hoster.
Students who placed within the Top 4 at State are now qualified to compete at the National Leadership Conference, which will take place virtually June 24 through June 27.

Megamind!

Robotics Team success earns invite to Robotics World Championship 2021 May 17-29
Mundelein High School’s Robotics Team recently took part in the VEX Robotics State Championship where they earned rankings of 10th, 18th, 30th and 35th in state. Because of those finishes, the Team 499 “Megamind” has been invited to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship. This is a historical first for the MHS Robotics program.

“In a year of uncertainty and change, it feels nice to be able to appreciate the students and their ability to overcome adversity,” said Andrew Hood who advises the club along with Manny Aldana and Tony Cho. ”Their persistence and community support were vital to the team’s impressive performance at the virtual championship last month.”

The Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit and VEX Robotics, is back to showcase the talent and skill of a range of student competitors by hosting the first-ever Live Remote VEX Robotics World Championship May 17-29, 2021. Leveraging the REC Foundation’s Live Remote Tournament interface, teams from around the world will be able to compete in real-time tournaments or live skills matches to be crowned champions.

During the live remote event, students in grades three through college will compete in timed robotics competition matches with their custom-built robots. Like in past world championships, competitors will have the opportunity to see familiar faces, activities and share in the excitement of the event.
“In a year altered by uncertainty and change, it feels nice to be able to appreciate the students and their ability to overcome adversity,” Hood said.

The REC Foundation’s Live Remote VEX Robotics World Championship 2021 is presented by the Northrop Grumman Foundation. Other global sponsors that support the program year-round and this event include Autodesk, Dell, Google, MathWorks, Microchip, NASA, Tesla, Texas Instruments and VEX Robotics, the leading provider of educational and competitive robotics products to schools, universities and robotics teams around the world.

The REC mission is to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on, affordable and sustainable robotics engineering programs.

Girls Volleyball - End of season wrap up

Thank you, to all the Senior Girls Volleyball players for all the hard work on and off the court.  We Congratulate; Brianna Martin, Claudia Wilcox, Kadra Balla, Grace Anzalone, Cheyenne Pellettiere, Emma Hallin, Anahi Larios, Ava Vogt, Emma Sanchez and Aaliyah Venegas. Coming to practice and matches with a positive outlook, you have given all of yourselves to the team.  In the classroom you focus on the instruction of the day and study to keep your grades up.  All of this has been a challenge in the times we are in today.  We wish you all success in your futures and good health.  This graduating class will make great things happen in the Future.  The entire MHS Volleyball Coaching Staff congratulates all our graduates as well as the entire Class of 2021.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball Team had to overcome many obstacles this season.  But, our athletes were able to complete the entire season, and we saw so much growth in each player.  Our record in no way represents the strength of this team. We will have a number of the team returning next season with varsity experience, and we look forward to continuing to build on what we started this season.

Soph - TBA

Girls Volleyball  A Team was 3-8 going into the NSC Tournament and went 6-0 in the last 2 weekends to end the season and finish 9-8

Freshman B Girls Volleyball started their season 1-4 and went on an 8-3 run to finish 9-7. They won their last match and set of the season 37-35

Boys Soccer - End of season wrap up

This year’s boys’ varsity soccer season was different than any other season.  The main focus this season was staying healthy through the pandemic while providing a positive experience for all soccer players involved in the program.  Those two goals were achieved, and the players will have lifelong memories to carry with them.

Although we will never know what our varsity team could have done in a state playoff series, they worked extremely hard throughout the season to improve and grow each day.  The players never gave up despite losing some very difficult games where the final outcome wasn't decided until the last minutes.  Faced with adversity in the form of weather and scheduling all season, the program did very well.  Each player continued to improve and it was fun to see each level battle all season.  The coaching staff is very proud of their efforts and we can’t wait to start working with them again real soon.

The JV Boys Soccer Team became the regular season NSC Conference Champions with a record of 6-0-1. During this tough year they finished with a fantastic final record of 11-2-1, playing some phenomenal soccer and putting up 37 goals and shutting out opponents in 7 games.

Baseball

On Thursday, April 15th, two Mundelein baseball players combined to throw a perfect game in a 10-0 win over McHenry. Neither starter Jack Bikus nor closer Michael Rastrelli let up a single hit or runner in the five inning contest, while combining to strike out ten hitters. Four Mustangs led the offense with multi-hit games. Drew Wellington and Chris Rooney paved the way with three hits each, with Matt Peterson and Michael Rastrelli each tallying two hits.

Boys Water Polo

Boys water polo moves to 10-1 with decisive wins over Palatine (20-9), #10 ranked conant (14-7), and #4 ranked New Trier (9-4) this week.

Senior Day

Football, Cheer, Dance and Band teams were celebrated at the last home football game. Congratulations to all members of these groups and thank you to all the parents for your tireless dedication.
