A divine musical comedy coming to Mundelein Theatre
What could be better than big, glitzy song and dance numbers that are the toast of Broadway-style musicals? How about big, glitzy song and dance numbers…with nuns? The current offering at Mundelein High School, Sister Act, will have plenty of both.
The show runs April 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.  Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $7 for students, seniors and kids. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mundeleintheatre.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door 45 minutes prior to curtain for each performance.

Written by Alan Menken, Glenn Slater and Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Trying to work her way to the top in 1970’s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with a very tough gangster named Curtis, and when she witnesses him commit a murder she ends up hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.

“This musical has everything you want in a musical comedy,” said Jonathan Meier, the director of Sister Act. “There are huge production numbers, chase scenes, and beautiful love songs that everyone will enjoy. But at its core, Sister Act is a very heartfelt story of people discovering who they are, and who they can become, and how to accept others for who they are.” Senior Rachel Larson portrays Delores. “I knew that this was a very fun show when it was announced last year that this would be our musical,” stated Larson. “But in working on the show, I have really come to appreciate the wonderful message it communicates regarding how we treat each other as human beings.”
Other seniors in the cast are Sydney Litka (Mother Superior), Natalie Williams (Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours), Anooha Dasari (Sister Mary Theresa), Jake Cumberland (Monsignor O’Hara), Kimberly Barr and Josie Hutson (Featured Nuns), and Alexis Chavez, and Abby Smith (Ensemble). Other Featured Nuns are Rosy Castro, Joslyn Gange, Laryzza Lazaro, Alexis Lee, Ellie Mellen, Brenda Olayo, Addison Salski and Annalise Welsch. Rounding out the ensemble are Bella Buono, Tori Collins, Lance Evans, Emma Ferrin, Dean Hansen, Ahmad Koya, Derek Lee, Amari Liebe, Brooke Mellen, Gigi Mercado, Katie Myrant, Chris Nacion, Colin Nacion, Megan Saunders, Marta Sikora, Zoe Trahan and Eli Walter. Information Needed When Calling Student in with Illness
At MHS we have students who, for medical reasons, are highly susceptible to infections and are at a significant risk for their lives due to a rare genetic immune deficiency.  We ask for your help in keeping your students home if they have been running a fever with a frequent cough or painful throat.  When calling the attendance line for students who need to stay home, please leave a detailed message that includes the specific symptoms and reason for their absence. Please alert the school nursing staff of any new diagnosis of an illness that can be contagious. The families of these highly susceptible students are then able to get added medical treatment to help boost their ability to avoid getting sick if they are aware of a current infectious process.  We highly recommend students experiencing illness should not return to school until they are 24 hours fever or symptom free.  Students are encouraged to stay in touch with their teachers by email when they are home sick.  Accommodations can be made for missed work due to illness.
Thank you very much for your care and cooperation.

Supplies become depleted in late summer and early fall. Please do not risk having your student excluded from school at the beginning of their senior year. Athletics

Boys Track
Cold temps and high winds didn't slow down our Mustangs last night, as they competed in the Bear Invite at Lake Zurich. Overall the Varsity squad took 7th against some powerhouse teams. The highlights...

Varsity
The 4 x 800 relay made a strong statement in winning the event in a fine time of 8:10 in the blustery conditions. The race saw the Mustangs and Barrington exchange leads a couple of times until Carter Schorr took the baton for the anchor leg. Carter turned a 3 second deficit into a 2.5 second win, running an incredible 1:58.4 split! Carter returned about an hour later to lead the open 800 for 700m before finishing in 2nd in 2:01.8. Sean Finerty continued his streak of great races to take 6th in 2:04.41.

The 110 HH provide a couple of PR's as Cody Gehrett took 6th in 16.27, while Mateusz Brak took 9th in 16.96, his first time under 17 seconds. Mateusz came back later to take 8th in the 300 IM in 45.13, to go along with his 3rd place finish in the High Jump, jumping 5'10".
The 4 x 200 relay showed some spark in taking 7th. The relay of Shawn Patrick, Saul Garcia, Cole Bradshaw, and Syam Atade ran 1:39.93 in that race. Syam also brought home points in the Long Jump, taking 8th with a leap of 18'5.25".
Both triple jumpers placed, with Matt Empalmado (6th, 38'9") and Michael Pipinis (8th, 37') doing the honors.

The 1600 provided the other win of the night for our Mustangs, with Dillon Blake winning in 4:30.42, and Robert St. Clair not far behind, taking 3rd in 4:32.68.
The 4 x 400 relay took 6th in 3:37.75. Carter Schorr, Dario Carrillo, Mikey Parduhn, and Cody Gehrett did the honors.

Last but not least, the Thrower's Relay crushed it, taking 2nd. Jaxon Dennis, Isaac Onyeise, Dennis Dyachenko, and Alex Hurtado, brought the faithful to their feet with their gutsy performance.

Fresh/Soph
Nobody had a better night than Deangelo McClellan. Deangelo had a monster PR in the Long Jump, going 17'7.5" to take 3rd. Deangelo was also a key to the sprint relays, which both placed. The 4 x 100 of Joey Foreman, Carson Rapp, Jacob Ko, and Deangelo took 8th in 50.25, while te 4 x 200 of Foreman, Luke Pietrusiewicz, Rapp, and Deangelo took 6th in 1:45.27.

The 4 x 800 relay of Elian Salgado, Nathan Clapp, Andre Brizzell, and Aaron Hernandez took 4th in 9:20.50. The 4 x 400 relay of Diego Gonzalez, Nathan Clapp, Luke P. and Aaron Hernandez took 7th. And in a huge PR, Jacob Ko had a 4 foot increase in his Triple Jump, leaping 33'1".
Great job, Mustangs!
Coach Rutz

At Palatine Boys Track had a great night at Palatine Distance Night! Robert St. Clair ran 9:51. Dario Carrillo 1:59.37, Aidan Afonso broke 4:30 for the first time-4:29.43. Dillon Blake missed his own school record by 1 second, running 9:17. Race of the night goes to Mikey Parduhn, who pushed the pace and took 3rd in the 800 with a PR of 1:56.76!

Allied Soccer
The Allied Soccer program allows male and female student-athletes with disabilities who are unable to participate in varsity sports to compete interscholastically.

An integral part of the program are the Allied student-partners (also known as buddies) who may participate in traditional varsity sports at the school. These partners help mentor and encourage the student-athletes both at practice and on the field during games.

The Allied Soccer team is back for another season of unified soccer. We’ve got a great group of student athletes and peer mentors ready to take the field. Attached is the full schedule, which includes two home games in the stadium. Hope to see you there.

MHS Mental Health and Wellbeing Parent/Guardian Event
On Monday, April 22nd at 6:00pm, MHS will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness parent event. This presentation, scheduled for an hour and a half, will consist of two components: first, volunteers from the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) will give a presentation called Ending the Silence. NAMI Ending the Silence is designed to give audience members an opportunity to learn about mental illness through an informative slideshow, short videos, and a personal testimony from a young adult living with a mental health condition. The presentation outlines symptoms of mental health conditions and gives attendees ideas about how to talk to their children and work with school staff.  For more information about Ending the Silence, please visit the NAMI website: https://www.nami.org/Find-Support/NAMI-Programs/NAMI-Ending-the-Silence.

Following the Ending the Silence presentation, representatives from Mundelein High School’s student services staff will give a brief presentation about MHS’s efforts to inform students about mental health as well as about services provided to MHS students and families. Team Captain, Cody Cornier's received the honor or escorting two Marines in full uniform on the field, "My favorite part about the event was being able to talk with veterans and current Military and share stories of our different paths and to be able to connect through different experiences."-Cody Cornier.

After a home game win against the Zion Benton Zeebees on April 17th, the senior starters of the Mundelein Baseball team jump for joy due to a great success. The Mustangs "slaughtered" the Zeebees, meaning that they beat them for by a 10 point lead, so after the 5th inning, the game was automatically over. Photo taken by Olivia Harbison
