 5 Essential Survey

Mundelein High School parents and guardians,

School District 120 is participating with the Illinois State Board of Education in the 2023 statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. This is your chance to provide input concerning your child’s education. We value your opinions about the operations of Mundelein High School.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. The surveys are available now through Friday, March 31. Please use the following link to complete the survey:

Link to survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/

Opens Jan. 24, 2023 and closes March 31, 2023.

We will take all of your input seriously and use it to continually review and update our current educational practices. Results will never be connected to your child. No individual will be identified in the school reports and teachers and administrators will not see individual responses.

The survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago and provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring the five essentials critical for school  success:

  • Effective Leaders

  • Collaborative teachers

  • Involved families

  • Supportive education

  • Ambitious instruction

The survey results will be sent to District 120 and will be included in the Illinois State School Report Card next fall.

Thanks, in advance, for taking part in this important survey.

Student Life

AP Environmental Science students along with teacher Alyssa Wiltjer toured CLCJAWA (Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency) to learn more about the problems with our freshwater availability and some solutions the Great Lakes Initiative is taking to prevent future problems.  They got to tour the plant and see all the safeguards in place to ensure clean water delivery and the purpose behind each additive. The students also viewed “Dark Waters”; a movie based on the true story of DuPont and Teflon contaminating drinking water. Afterward, the students had a deep discussion about the movie asking thoughtful questions.

Boys Track Coaches Corner

This past Saturday we competed in the first ever NSC Indoor Invitational. Strong performances all-around, as we took 4th in both the F/S and Varsity levels. Listed below all our medalists (Top 3).

At the F/S level, we had 2 meet champions. Freshman Kessler Magrow won the HighJump with a PR of 4'11", and Freshman Elijah Mendoza won the 1600 with a time of 5:06.71. We also received several 3rd place finishes, starting with the 4 x 800 relay of Kessler Magrow, Logan Ramirez, Elijah Mendoza, and Nathaniel Mendez. Also taking 3rd were Nick Selimos in the 200M, Logan Ramirez in the 800, William Vilchynskyy in the Shot Put, and the foursome of Aubre Booker, Adam Hauf, Anthony Ramirez, and Nick Selimos in the 4 x 200M Relay.

At the Varsity level, the Big Guys led the way, as Brandon Hansen took 3rd in the Shot Put, and Marcel Siepko took a pair of 2nd, in the 60M and 200M Dashes. Julian Eagar finished on Marcel's heels in the 200, finishing 3rd. Sophomore Alberto Diaz took 3rd in the 3200M with a huge PR of 10:13.03. We also had a number of other scorers in the top 6, which you can find in the attached results. Lots of PRs and great efforts on the night, demonstrating that we can compete when the outdoor season begins. One more indoor meet, as we will be back at Lakes HS on Friday. More info coming later in the week. Great Job, Mustangs!

Also- This Sunday (March 19th) is the Big Mattress Sale benefitting the Boys' Track Team.  Please pass the word to everyone you know. Hope to see you all Sunday!

Boys Gymnastics Coaches Corner

The MHS boys gymnastics team had their first conference meet on Thursday 3/9 against Libertyville and Stevenson. Gymnasts Holden Allsbury and Braeden Kratz had season best all around scores. Both JV and Varsity teams recorded season high team scores as well. Good job Mustangs.

Girls Track Coaches Corner

An outstanding team effort tonight at Highland Park! 3rd place for our F.A.M.I.L.Y.

Vivi G. competing hard with only 1 shoe!!!!

Boys Volleyball Coaches Corner

Our boys teams have been solidified after a week of tryouts, and now the teams are brushing off rusty skills and working on building new ones. Because of tight gym space, the JV and Varsity teams have been practicing at Carl Sandburg Middle School, and we are looking forward to getting back into the MHS gym. Our first game is Monday, March 20th at home against Palatine.
