SoundFX, Lights take first and second at Herscher Invitational
Mundelein High School’s all-male show choir, SoundFX, was named Grand Champion in the Unisex Division at the Herscher Swing and Sing Invitational held March 18 at Herscher [IL] High School. The all-female show choir, Lights, was named first runner-up.
Additional awards for the MHS music groups include the mixed show choir, Sound, being named second runner-up in the Open Class Division, the Noise Band taking first in their division [with Lights] and Dominic Cappuccilli being named Best Male Soloist in a Show.
The next choral event for the MHS music groups is an annual free off-site concert at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Mundelein, April 19 at 7 p.m., where the Concert Choir and Master Singers will perform.
Choral directors at MHS are Stevee Bellas and Cory Thompson.

Group Interpretation qualifies for state competition
The Mundelein Theatre’s Group Interpretation, Stranger than Fiction, took part in sectional competition March 18 at Fremd High School in Palatine and placed second, which qualifies them to compete in the state tournament this weekend at the University of Illinois at Springfield. They will compete against 17 other high schools. Their preliminary performance is at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, March 24. Six teams will be selected to perform in the final round of competition on Saturday, March 25.
Group Interpretation is a 30-minute, student-led performance of any literary work. The focal point of the performance is “out” to the audience with limited on-stage focus. The performance is minimal in nature, meaning that performers wear a uniform dress (not costumes) and build a minimalistic set. Sound effects are permitted but no lighting, specific costuming, properties or theater makeup can be used. Group Interpretation is an IHSA-sanctioned activity.
Stranger than Fiction is about Harold Crick, a lonely IRS agent whose mundane existence is transformed when he hears a mysterious voice narrating his life. With the help of Professor Jules Hilbert, Harold discovers he's the main character in a novel-in-progress and that the voice belongs to Karen Eiffel, an eccentric author famous for killing her main characters in creative ways. Harold must quickly track down Eiffel and stop her before she conjures up a way to finish him off.
English Instructor Mark Landuyt is the Group Interpretation Director with Miriam Mitry as Assistant Director. Cast members include Joey Salit, Katie Staroszczyk, Natalie Williams, Henry Dumblauskas, Jenna Panos, Ashley Carrier, Jake Cumberland, Anooha Dasari, Allan Rodriguez, Abby Smith and Eric Gross. Understudies are Dan Haller and Kimberly Barr.

State Testing
All 11th graders will take the SAT on Wednesday April 5th at MHS. All 10th graders will take the PSAT 10 (practice SAT) at MHS on April 5th. On Thursday, March 23, 2017, all 10th and 11th grade students are required to arrive no later than 7:45 am. Buses will only pick up 10th and 11th graders at their regular Schedule “A” time. Students will meet in their assigned testing rooms to complete required paperwork for the PSAT 10 or the SAT exam. Students in 9th and 12th grade will be picked up at their normal late-start time for starting school at 9:25 AM.

Happy Spring Break from your cafeteria staff!! When students return there will be a couple new promotions in the cafeteria. BLT salad, California Club and Fiesta Cheeseburger to name a few. Be sure to check out the Chopped Salad and Deli Station on line 4.
Boys State
Attention! Final call for American Legion Boys State applicants. Only juniors can apply for this prestigious spot as a participant in a mock government setting. Run for political offices at all levels, write legislation, meet more than 300 students from across Illinois, hone talents for public speaking and networking, have fun. Many colleges consider participation at Boys State to be an honor. Find out more about the all-expenses-paid, week-long summer program in the Literacy Center. April 4 deadline.
Asian Culture Club Field Trip
26 students visited Chicago's Chinatown with MHS's Asian Culture Club on Saturday, March 18th. The group went on a guided walking tour, learned how to make dumplings, enjoyed a traditional Chinese lunch, and enjoyed their time exploring.

University Center Open House: Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm
The University Center hosts free education fairs to provide information to prospective students about University Center offerings. They take place in the Multi-Purpose Room of our Grayslake facility. Each event showcases the University Center’s undergraduate and graduate and professional development programs and provides the opportunity to meet with representatives from the member schools who can discuss their programs in depth. Often there are free workshops to attend during the event. In July, “Mapping Your Return to School” will be presented at 6:30 pm by Judson Curry, Associate Director and Assistant Professor, School of Professional Studies, North Park University. XLC does a live broadcast from the Open Houses and brings their cash machine. The University Center staff also attend to provide pre-admission advising.
College to host April information sessions on several career programs
Careers in several fields, ranging from paralegal studies to nursing, will be the focus of information sessions being offered at the College of Lake County in April.
Each session includes an overview of duties, a typical day, salary, job outlook and educational requirements. No RSVP is required. Unless noted otherwise, the sessions will take place at the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.
- Dental Hygiene: April 5 at noon in Room N135, Lakeshore Campus, 33 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.
- Health Information Technology: April 5 at 4:30 p.m. in Room A152.
- Massage Therapy: April 5 at noon, Room 220, Southlake Campus, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave. in Vernon Hills.

Athletics
Girls Track & FieldMustangs Girls Track traveled to Carthage College to compete in the Kenosha Bradford Invite this past weekend. Khari Thompkins started her impressive day running 7.46 in the 55m, qualifying for the finals. Khari endured a false start in the finals, taking 8th in a time of 7.55. Khari's 7.46 also counts as the school indoor FAT record. Khari came back to run the 400 in 61.16, her PR and good for 5th place. Megan Schlebecker also had an indoor PR in the same race, running 63.90, good for 11th place. Ryann Ray PR’d in the High Jump for the second week in a row, going 4'11", and taking 2nd place, highest Mustang finish on the night! The last field event of the night was the most exciting, as Kalli Majewski kept breaking her PR. When the sand settled, she added a foot and a half to her PR, leaping 35'9.5", good for 3rd place, and only 1.5" away from the outdoors State qualifying mark. Also, a school record was posted by the 4x200 relay with Amauri Thomas, Yazeni Sanchez, Bree Park & Ryann Ray! On the night, the Mustangs scored 21 points and taking 11th place out of 37 teams, our highest finish ever!

Boys Track & Field
The boys' team had an incredible night, scoring 44 points and tying Lakes for 2nd overall out of 45 teams. Best finish in school history!
The day got started with a win in the 4 x 800 relay, as the quartet of Mikey Parduhn, Robert St. Clair, Dario Carrillo, and Ben Krauss won with a time of 8:21.91, winning by 4 seconds.
Next up, Sal Roman had a PR in the semis of the 55 hurdles, running 8.36 and qualifying for the finals. Sal came back in the finals to take 6th with another PR, running 8.26. Bobby Nuzzo continued his winning ways, winning the 55m with a time of 6.55 he then came back to take 2nd in the 200, running 22.73. Sophomore Robert St. Clair finished his big day with a 2nd place finish in the 3200, running a PR of 9:42.09, coming from way back to make it a very close, exciting race. Freshman Dillon Blake had an incredible race, running a PR of 9:54.54 and taking 4th.

Boys Water Polo
Mundelein High School went 2-2 over the weekend taking 4th place at our own 8 team varsity invite. Beating St. Charles North & Hinsdale Central while coming up short vs Lindbergh & Libertyville. Weekend warriors were: Oleinik 14 goals, Kavanaugh 6 goals, McGee 4 goals, Zentz 4 goals, Gonzalez 2 goals, Kim 2 goals and Duffy & Garcia each contributing 1 goal each.
Girls Water Polo
Girls varsity journeyed to Naperville Central and competed strong with a 4th place finish out of 8 teams. Beating Sandburg & Fremd were huge victories for the Mustangs. Weekend warriors were: Lukas 15 goals & 9 Steals, Krauss 2 goals, 6 steals & 4 assist and Westgate with 1 goal, 8 steals and 2 assist.
Abbie Lukas was named “Baller of the Week” from Illinois polo for her performance at the NC tournament. Coach Vukovics says “each competition we are getting better and growing as a team and program”.
