Mustang Families,

As we begin second semester, we are asking parents to partner with us in communicating the following priorities from home. Our MHS Portrait of a Learner tenets affirm student identity through schoolwide values, expectations and practices. We also want to encourage good attendance and reiterate the importance of adhering to our student dress code policy as found in our student handbook. Although we take great pride in a dress code that encourages self-expression, we do want to remind students of the following:

  • Clothing must cover all undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).

  • Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.

  • Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.

  • Clothing that depicts pornography, nudity or sexual acts is prohibited.

Finally, as we enter a three-day weekend, I hope we take a moment to remember the wise words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Go Mustangs!

Class of 2027 Night

Thursday, January 19, 2023

6:00 PM - 09:00 PM

Dear Future Mustangs Students and Families,

Our upcoming Class of 2027 Night is on Thursday, January 19th, 2023 at Mundelein High School for all incoming ninth graders and their families.

The program will include an overview of our academic programs, course placements, information on the day-in-the-life of a ninth grader, and extracurricular opportunities at MHS.

Incoming ninth graders will meet with high school students to learn more about what they will experience as they transition to MHS. Topics such as classes, activities, athletics, and special events will be discussed.

Students will also have an opportunity to ask questions about the transition to high school. Following the presentations, we will host our Activities/Athletics Fair, where sponsors, coaches, and students will be available to speak about their respective clubs or sports, answer questions, and enlist future members. In addition, department chairs and other administrators will be available to answer any questions you may have about the transition to high school.

We ask that parents/guardians and students with last names A-L arrive at the MHS auditorium by 6:00 PM for a 45-minute presentation. Parents/guardians and students with last names M-Z should attend the 7:15 PM session in the auditorium.

The presentation will be offered in Spanish in the cafeteria during both sessions. Spanish-speaking families can also use translation headphones for the presentation in the auditorium.

All parking lots at Mundelein High School will be open to the public on January 19th. We will run shuttles from parking lots further from the main entrance. For more information about the transition to MHS, please visit the D120 web page under “Incoming 9th Grade Parents”.

Lunar New Year

Sunday, January 22

In many parts of the world,  New Year’s Day is observed on January 1, which is the first day of the year according to the modern Gregorian calendar. However, for countries that use a lunisolar calendar, the new year typically falls a few weeks later, and in 2023, January 22 marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year. Americans typically refer to the 15-day celebration as Chinese New Year, but the festival is actually called Lunar New Year celebrated by several Asian nations — including South Korea, Vietnam, and Singapore.  Lunar New Year traditions  vary from country to country. Athletics

Girls Bowling Coaches Corner

Girls bowling is having a phenomenal season. We competed against Lake Zurich on Wednesday to begin the second half of our season to bring our record to 10-0. It will be a busy three weeks as we prepare for JV and Varsity conference and try to hold onto the #1 spot.

Wrestling Coaches Corner

Over winter break the Mundelein Wrestling Team has been continuing to grind with 3 hour practices in the morning.  Even though the schedule was light the team did find time to get a dual meet in with Warren and some Tournament with the under level.  The Varsity fell short to Warren but gave them a good go bringing the Mustang's Record to 11-5 of the season.

The JV had a busy schedule wrestling Warren and some Tournaments.  Most wrestlers had 2-3 matches with Warren since they had such a large team. The JV had 5 undefeated wrestlers which include: 120 Cernas 13-10, 126 Krusinski 20-8,  138 A. Konewko 18-2, 170 W. Nieves 11-5, and 182 Coe 10-11 of the season.

The JV Wrestlers had a Libertyville Tournament with a very light JV Team.  Winners include: 120 Cernas 2-2, 138 Van De Motor 2-2, 170 O'Campo 4-1 placing 5th, and Cabrera 3-1 placing 3rd.

The following week the Frosh/Soph had a Libertyville Tournament and hung in with some very competitive teams.  The Mustangs had 8 placers out of 11 wrestlers.  The place winners include: 120 Cernas 3-1 2nd place, 126 Martinez 3-1 3rd place, 132 Krusinski 3-0 1st place, 152 D. Hernandez 3-1 3rd place, 152 Molina 2-2 6th place, 170 Kofman 3-1 5th place, 182 W. Nieves 3-1 5th place, and Cabrera 3-1 3rd place.

This Friday January 13th we will be hosting a dual meet with Libertyville in the Main Gym Sr. Night.  Hope to have a big showing to support our Seniors and our Wrestlers.

Boys Basketball Coaches Corner

I (Coach Badgley) was fortunate to coach them, as these 2 teammates won about 87% of their games together in H.S.  Enjoyed watching them as opponents tonight living their dreams. MHS alum Scottie Ebube (SIU) and Conner Enright (Drake)
