We’ve had a busy week at MHS. Student Leadership is up and running, Friday Focus is back and our Deans, Counselors and College and Career Center all provided presentations for our students throughout PE classes this week. Our English classes closed the week with a Book Talk where students discussed books they are currently reading with their peers! Inquire fun reading options from your child and make it a Bookflix night (as displayed in Mr. Buck’s English classroom).

Open House
The staff of Mundelein High School invite you to join us for our annual Open House on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:30-8:30pm. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a parent welcome in the Auditorium. The full schedule of classes begins at 6:00 p.m. and will end at 7:55 p.m. During this time, we give you the opportunity to follow your student's class schedule, meet their teachers and learn all about our courses. We also encourage you to stop by the student cafeteria area during free periods, study halls or lunch periods to hear from our School Counselors, Psychologists, Social Workers, Deans, Nurse, and Wellness Center staff.
During periods 3-6 only, the following will be open:
Media Center
Math Lab - Room B146
Literacy Center
Lunch Cafe - Room B153
*Parents of Freshman should report to their assigned rooms during lunch periods to meet their child’s FAM advisor. The FAM advisor will provide information regarding FAM, Media Center, Math Lab, Literacy Center, and Lunch Café.
Students will be stationed around the building to assist our families as they navigate through our halls and classrooms. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of their assistance. We always look forward to this evening because it is an excellent way for our parents to get a true feel for the academic program their students are pursuing and to meet those people most responsible for making it come alive for our students.

Underclass Yearbook Photos
Picture day is Wednesday, September 14. All sophomores, juniors and any freshman not photographed during
orientation will be photographed for the yearbook whether or not the photos are purchased. A retake and senior
“yearbook only” day will take place in October. Access the VIP (Visual Image Photography) ordering instructions here.
PSAT/NMSQT
Attention Juniors, important information hereabout the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which will be administered at MHS on
October 12, 2022.
Be a STEAMScholar!
The Illinois Tenth Congressional District STEAM Scholar Program is an exciting educational opportunity launched by Congressman Brad Schneider in 2018 for high school students in our community. The program aims to connect highly-motivated students interested in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics with hands-on learning experiences throughout our district.
In the fall, students selected to participate in the STEAM Scholars program will have the opportunity to join Congressman Schneider on visits to four STEAM-related businesses and facilities during the 2022-2023 school year. On these visits, students will have the chance to participate in discussions with local employees, business owners, and educators, and learn more about the STEAM career opportunities in our backyard. All tickets to home varsity football contests starting tomorrow night must be purchased through GoFan - MHS student entry remains free and students should enter through the HERO gate on the west end of the Stadium.
Allowed/Prohibited Items
Just a reminder, allowed items to bring to football games include: sealed water bottles, baby food, rain gear, blankets, coats, umbrellas,
wheelchairs, walkers, service dogs and pre-approved signs or posters. Prohibited items include:backpacks, large
purses, beach bags, coolers, outside food or drink, noise makers, balls, inflatable toys, laser Pointers, paint, baby
powder, streamers, alcoholic beverages, tobacco of any kind including e-cigarettes, drones (except for MHS school
issued drone), and non-service certified pets.
The Foundation Season Pass
Come visit the MHS Foundation’s table at the home football game Friday night and purchase your Athletic
Activity Season Pass! We will be located outside the main gate entrance! For $30, you receive 2 season passes to
all home Football, Basketball, and Wrestling events. With this pass, you pay just $2 for admittance (not valid for
IHSA sponsored events). Stop by and see us!
Boys Cross Country - Coaches Corner: Kurt Rutz
The team kicks off the cross-country season on August 31 with an away meet at the scenic Waukegan Sports
Complex followed by their first home meet on September 6th on the home course located at the Diamond Lake
Sports Complex. Preparation, however, has been going on all summer with most attending the MHS running camp
where they not only found camaraderie but heard from running experts. Runners also traveled to the Illinois state
course to participate in the ever-popular “Detweiler at Dark'' run, a one-of-a-kind running experience at night with
strobe lights and music that also raises money for worthy causes. The annual Freedom Classic5k also serves as a
midsummer check of how training is going and is a reunion event for past, present, and future MHS runners and
we had a great turnout there
With official practices under way, the team conducted a two-mile time trial Saturday. Like the 5k earlier in the
summer, the time trial this past weekend serves as a benchmark for improvement as the season progresses and an
assessment of summer conditioning. We had very good performances with our first 9 runners, including 2
freshmen, all within 1:39 minutes of each other showing much depth. The team is looking forward to what we can
do over our official 3-mile competitive distance when we run at the County Meet August 31st, is motivated, and
looking forward to competition starting. Please join us at our meets and follow along via our weekly updates!

Boys Golf - Coaches Corner: Todd Parola

Mustangs 2nd place at Huntley invite with 316. Kisselburg 6th with 76. Koenigsknecht 7th with 77.
Boys Varsity Golf team toiled in The Den and took 3rd Place out of 23 teams!
Kisselburg tied for 13th (79), Hinkle tied for 19th (80) and Begg tied for 20th (81).
Boys Soccer
The Mundelein Boys Soccer program recently traveled to Lewis University,
Coach Sebastian Falinski’s alma mater, to watch a college soccer match and tour the campus. A little rain
couldn’t dampen the spirits of the boys as everyone had fun experiencing college soccer.

Girls Volleyball - Coaches Corner: Calaeb Haire (Campbell) & Beth Willis
The MHS Girls Volleyball program is off to a great start! We had a huge turnout of athletes at tryouts and
were able to fill 5 full teams (Freshman A & B, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity). It has been a wonderful two
weeks of team-building, skill improvement, and overall fun. The red/gray scrimmage for the Back to School
Night was a blast, and it has made us all really excited for the season to come! We had our first match against
Deerfield on Wednesday, August 24. The Varsity team plays again this weekend at the Crosstown Classic in
Libertyville. Go Mustangs!

Previous Reminders
COVID Guidance
Continue to report COVID positive cases to the Health Office. Lunchrooms and assemblies are able to
return to normal this year. Please contact Mrs. Taylor if certain accommodations are needed during lunch or
assemblies.
Off Campus Lunch
Juniors and Seniors may leave the building for lunch, as long as they have no service time. Service time must
be completed before they can leave. Freshman and Sophomores are unable to leave the building for lunch.
Attendance
Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for s
uccess. Students are expected to attend each class and be on time. Students who attend school regularly have
been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. If your student is going
to be absent from school, please call the Attendance Line 847-949-2200 ext. 1998 (Spanish) ext. 1999 (English)
by 10:00 am.
Technology Use
Students will utilize technology to support their learning in class. Students are reminded to use their
Chromebooks and cell phones appropriately at all times. For further information about technology use, please
