5Essentials Parent Survey

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains.

These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.

We value your opinions about the operations of the high school and are looking for your input. This is your chance to provide input concerning your children’s education. MHS benefits from a strong response rate from parents in order for us to access to the data from the survey. The survey is available to MHS parents now and the deadline to complete the survey is March 22 but we encourage you to complete it as soon as you can.

Boys Basketball
Coaches Corner: Matt Badgely

Varsity has had an eventful last couple of weeks during conference play. Varsity went 4-1 over the last 5 conference games. They beat Zion Benton, Waukegan, Stevenson, and Lake Zurich. Bishop led the Stangs with 11pts vs Zion Benton, Moenning had 20pts vs Waukegan, Paluch had 11pts vs Stevenson, and Rhinehart had 16 vs Lake Zurich. The boys have really bought into the mentality of playing our best basketball late into the season and have been adapting to different game plans. We have players that are feeling comfortable in their roles and beginning to excel in them. Lower levels are continuing to compete, improve their skills and knowledge, and understand expectations of the program. We have had success in games that do not always result in wins on the scoreboard. More than basketball- we have multiple multisport athletes that are in our program that are getting noticed by the next level. Omari Rhinehart, Brock Paluch, and Brandon Hansen are just a couple of our athletes whose successes are not going unnoticed.

Dance
Coaches Corner: Melanie Arango

16 years! Our unstoppable Varsity dancers continue to amaze, qualifying for their 16th consecutive year at State Finals. Moved back into the extremely loaded 3A Division this year, they placed 4th at Sectionals & returned from Bloomington last Saturday in the elite group of the Top 20 dance teams in Illinois. Although challenged several times by COVID, these girls never stopped adjusting choreography, supporting each other & definitely rising to the challenges. They're not done yet - come & see them during basketball halftimes!
