The Girls Volleyball program has so much to celebrate. Coach Steve Rossini took home his 500th career win last week when his Freshman A team soundly defeated Grayslake North. Congratulations, Coach Rossini!  Also, congratulations to Olivia Benjamin on being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Lake Forest Varsity Volleyball Tournament last weekend. On Wednesday at the home game against Warren, the Varsity girls recognized an influential staff member who has made a positive impact on their lives. Thank you, staff for making MHS a wonderful place for our student-athletes! Finally, please mark your calendars to join us as we celebrate the life of Kristen Meister at our Cancer Awareness night on Wednesday, October 20. The game is against Zion at home. Freshman A & Sophomores play at 5:00 pm, and Freshman B & Varsity play at 6:00 pm.

Boys Cross Country

Coaches Corner: Kurt Rutz

Last Saturday varsity competed at the Peoria Invite. Held at Detweiller Park, this course has been the site of the State Meet for 50 years. Every great runner from Illinois has run there. Our boys took 29th out of 34 teams.  3 Mustangs, Tom Russ, Jake Hall, and Alberto Diaz all had PRs.

The rest of our team ran at the Antioch Invite at Fox River Park. This is a scenic and extremely hilly course which yielded a number of solid efforts.

Double Dual Against LZ and Stevenson

Tuesday saw a great effort by our team - the best all year! They were aggressive, followed the race plan, and had some great results. Even though we lost to both Stevenson and LZ, we were extremely competitive, and set us up for more success at the end of the season. Six runners ran personal bests showing substantial drops in time. Race of the Day goes to Mariano Rodriguez, who, despite losing a shoe in the first mile, still PRd by 20 seconds. Jake Hall bettered his time by 40 seconds, Marco Delacruz by 13 seconds, Jonny Gray by 25 seconds, Andrian Afonzo by 1-minute 33secods, and Martin Palacios by 2 minutes!

Next up for the team is the Lakes Invitational held on another fabulous course, showcasing Fall in Lake County.
