Open your door to the world

Mundelein High School is ready to welcome foreign exchange students next school year! Have you ever considered hosting a foreign exchange student? It is a life-changing experience for the student and the family.  You could call a student like Juan from Argentina your son or Sara from Lebanon your daughter. Juan is a respectful student at his school, loves dogs, and has a passion for team sports and adventure. Sara is a well-rounded young lady who enjoys music, crime dramas, and bike rides. Interested in learning more about our students and what is involved in becoming a host family? Check out our exchange program partner’s website at https://www.afsusa.org/host-family/ or contact Kristyn White at whitekristyn@gmail.com.

Last to-do item before the end of the year: Pre-order your school yearbook

Before you leave for the summer, remember to pre-order a 2020-21 yearbook, which captures what schooling was like during an unprecedented year.  You can pre-order your book for $55 through the publishing company at Jostens.com.

If you are unsure whether or not you already pre-ordered a book, please do not hesitate to ask the adviser Michelle Didzbalis at mdidzbalis@d120.org. Be aware that we cannot refund duplicated orders.

Finally, if all goes according to plan, we are hoping to be able to distribute the yearbooks the first week of August.  More information will come as we wrap up the book by getting in spring and summer sporting and schooling events.

Thank you for supporting the yearbook program and the students who produced it with your purchase.

MHS to host second annual 5K Race against gun violence
For the second year, Mundelein High School will host The Mundelein 5K Race Against Gun Violence (MRAGV) on Sunday, June 13 from 9 am to 12 noon at the high school. Area residents are encouraged to participate in the race and/or donate to the cause.

“The Mundelein My Brother's Keeper Community & Black Student Union are proud to host the second annual Mundelein Race Against Gun Violence,” said Trey Baker, MHS senior and organizer of the event. Baker is also the president of the MHS Black Student Union and Mundelein Scholars United.

“The MRAGV will help raise awareness and funds for more than 50 community organizations working for a more peaceful Chicago where all can thrive, free from the fear of gun violence,” Baker explained.

“With COVID-19 increasing hardships in the very same communities contending with gun violence, MRAGV is an opportunity to choose hope, support the life-changing work of nonprofits and to provide a platform for people who care about ending gun violence and getting involved,” Baker said.

Check-In for the race begins at 8:15 am and the race will take place from 9 am to noon. Facemasks will be required when not running/walking in the race, social distancing will be maintained and hand sanitizer stations will be provided.

“We all can agree the epidemic of gun violence has taken too many lives and especially the lives of our children who have just begun to explore the world,” Baker said. “This touches my heart as well because I’ve experienced personal tragedy with losing loved ones to gun violence. With this event, we have an incredible opportunity to bring our community members back together to further connect, commit, contribute, and change what is possible,” he concluded.
