Six MHS students selected for U of I STEM summer program

Six Mundelein High School students are among 108 selected for the new Discovering STEM in ACES summer program offered by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Students from MHS who were admitted into this competitive program are juniors Alizey Guiterrez-Perez, Miguel Alexander Hernandez, Miguel Angel Hernandez, Amelia Luck, Neida Rivas and Martin Sahagun. While participants are drawn from all across the state, the Mundelein High School students are the only ones representing Lake County, IL.

The two-week program, offered virtually this year, will connect science, technology, engineering and math with the vast range of agricultural areas offered at the College of Agriculture, Commerce & Environmental Sciences (ACES). Students will explore subjects such as engineering and technology,  food safety and security, finance, marketing and management, careers involving children and families, veterinary medicine, healthcare and policy law, and much more.

Teams will be formed based on academic interests with students participating in discussions that demonstrate connections to real world problems. Graduate students, alumni and business representatives contribute to the program. While participants are drawn from all over the state, the Mundelein High School students are the only ones representing Lake County, Ill. Participants who successfully complete Discovering STEM in ACES will be awarded a scholarship upon their acceptance in admissions and enrollment into the College of ACES at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
