Romance & Relationships Take Center Stage at Mundelein Theatre

For their winter play offering, Mundelein Theatre is presenting LOVE/SICK, by John Cariani. The play is described as a collection of ten slightly twisted and completely hilarious short plays, which explores the pain and the joy that comes with being in love. The play is being streamed online on February 26, 27 and 28. The shows on the 26th and 27th are scheduled content, which means they play once at 7 pm on those dates. The show on the 28th is video on demand, which means that those purchasing tickets can watch the show starting at 2 pm, and can view the show as often as they want for a 48 hour time period. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.showtix4u.com/events/18905 Some of the plays contain mature content.

“This was the perfect piece for creating theatre during a pandemic,” said Jeff Harding, co-director of the show. “Each play features two actors, so we were able to give plenty of students the opportunity to perform, while keeping the rehearsal process safe.” “This collection of stories follows a relationship arc,”  co-director Jonathan Meier explained. “There are plays about falling in love, getting married, discussing children, raising children, infidelity and divorce.  It will be a really compelling night of streaming theatre.”

The plays were all filmed on the Mundelein High School stage, with students manning the cameras and storyboarding the shots. “Planning and executing the filming of the plays has given our tech theatre students a valuable experience this year,” said Sara Gunther, Mundelein Theatre staff member in charge of lighting and filming. “It is something that they were able to add to their skillsets.”

The student Production Managers are Sarah Larson, Meghan Matthys, Chris Moyer, Zoe Trahan and Marley Wilkins. The Assistant Director is Megan Saunders. The actors all wear transparent masks during the filming of the plays. The plays and the actors are Obsessive Impulsive (Tori Collins & Leandro Ocampo, The Singing Telegram (Grace Sciortino & Addison Salski), What?!? (Maximus Watson & Will Gonzalez), The Answer (Taylor Gates & Max Dunlap), Uh-Oh (Mary McMurray & Kailib Keblys), Lunch and Dinner (Joslyn Ganges & Matthew Callas), Chicken (Chris Nacion & Bella Buono), Forgot (Dean Hahn & Katie Myrant), Where Was I? (Julia Myrant & Hailey Lindenbaum) and Destiny (Eli Walter & Haydn Nuttall).

Mr. Mustang – “The Bachelorette, the most dramatic Mr. Mustang ever!”

Ten seniors from Mundelein High School will compete for the title of Mr. Mustang during a virtual evening of entertainment over Zoom at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6.

There is no admission fee this year. A link to the event will be emailed to MHS parents and students 24 hours prior to the event. Members of the community may request the link by calling the Main Office at (847) 949-2200 during the same 24-hour period.

The theme for the night is "The Bachelorette: The Most Dramatic Mr Mustang Ever."  Earlier this year, the senior girls voted for their favorites to be contestants and emcees.

The evening's events will include an intro dance competition, talents, followed by a Q & A session. The talent acts include musicians, skits, and dog tricks. Senior girls will assist in the intro dances along with the Question & Answer Session.

The 10 contestants include Kyle Appelhans, Andrew Brizzell, Matthew Callas, Ethan Casler, Ray David, Roy Dumblauskas, Xavier Greene, Austin Knight, Dante Martinez, and Jeffrey Weiss. Serving as masters of ceremonies will be Jake Adams and Trey Baker.
