MHS is (viturally) OPEN!

As spring break ended, Mundelein High School began to experience the new "normal".  Students began to hear from their teachers via school email about expectations and experiences for the month of April.  I am proud of all the work that staff have been engaged in during the past two weeks in order to keep students learning, fed, and connected.  MHS staff are extremely creative and motivated to make the best of an unfortunate situation.

MHS eLearning Update
What started out as a plan of how to continue school under bad weather conditions, the MHS eLearning Plan has evolved into a sophisticated plan to provide students with an educational experience as close to being in the classroom.  Teachers have jumped into the week with creativity and positive attitude.  As the week continues, we are seeing improved student attendance.  Continue to influence your student to participate in school.

Course questions should continue to be directed to the classroom teacher.  Questions regarding the broader scope of eLearning should be directed to me (akroll@d120.org) and Stacey Gorman, Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning (sgorman@d120.org)

Student Wellness Ideas
As the Illinois State Board of Education has rolled out eLearning directives for all Illinois schools, one of the paramount concerns is to keep students connected and healthy.  In order to provide students (and adults!) with some inspiration during these uncertain times, MHS has created a slideshow with various strategies for maintaining social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

Spring Activities
Needless to say, it is a complete disappointment for MHS students and staff when student activities are inactive.  There are many different events of concern:  spring athletics including senior recognition in each sport, the musical, band and choir concerts, prom, specific course events, senior honors ceremony, and graduation to name a handful.  Certainly, each of these events are important to the students involved and the fabric of the entire school.  As an example, it was devastating to our players, student body and parents when the IHSA cancelled the boys basketball sectional playoff games in March.  Therefore, any decisions regarding whether these end of the year events will be held, rescheduled or cancelled will weigh heavily on our hearts and minds.

The goal of the MHS staff is to hold as many events as possible.   MHS is currently working with vendors, venues and calendars to keep as many student spring activities and events.

In the coming days, I will send an update specifically regarding plans for prom and graduation.    MHS is currently communicating with vendors and will have an update out shortly.
