Mustang News - April 5, 2019

The Final Stretch!

In the remaining weeks of the school year before us, MHS is officially in the "race to the end".  The race analogy is appropriate for this time of year.  With 6 weeks until graduation and less than 8 weeks to the end of the school year, many will feel as if they have run a marathon!  I encourage everyone to enjoy the remaining days by attending some of the awesome athletic contests or student events.  Our students are always inspiring!   In addition, my wish for all of our students is to end strong!

Information Needed When Calling Student in with Illness
At MHS we have students who, for medical reasons, are highly susceptible to infections and are at a significant risk for their lives due to a rare genetic immune deficiency.  We ask for your help in keeping your students home if they have been running a fever with a frequent cough or painful throat.  When calling the attendance line for students who need to stay home, please leave a detailed message that includes the specific symptoms and reason for their absence. Please alert the school nursing staff of any new diagnosis of an illness that can be contagious. The families of these highly susceptible students are then able to get added medical treatment to help boost their ability to avoid getting sick if they are aware of a current infectious process.  We highly recommend students experiencing illness should not return to school until they are 24 hours fever or symptom free.  Students are encouraged to stay in touch with their teachers by email when they are home sick.  Accommodations can be made for missed work due to illness.
Thank you very much for your care and cooperation.

Class of 2020 Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement Announcement
All current 11th grade students are required to have documented proof of receiving the meningoccal vaccine prior to the start of 12th grade year.  We ask that you check your records and/or contact your doctor’s office for this proof to turn into the school as soon as possible. Supplies become depleted in late summer and early fall. Please do not risk having your student excluded from school at the beginning of their senior year. You can turn in your documented proof directly to the school nurse or to the front office.  Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this important matter.

Boys Track & Field
Coaches Corner:
It was a great day to be a Mustang as we beat Libertyville 102-44 and Stevenson 79-66. Despite the cool temps and wind we had some really good performances. Here are the highlights-
In the field events, we received wins in the 3 jumps-
Mat Empalmado in the LJ (19'7")
Mike Pipinis in the TJ (37'5") and
Mateusz Brak in the HJ (5'6")

We swept the distance events, winning the 4 x 800 relay in 8:44.1 (Dillon Blake, Aidan Afonso, Sean Finerty, and Elian Salgado). Dario Carrillo won the 3200m with a time of 9:59.7. We went 1-2 in the 800 as Mikey Parduhn won in a time of 2:04.4, and Dillon Blake took 2nd in 2:12. We took the top 4 spots in the 1600m, with Carter Schorr winning with a huge PR of 4:34.4. Robert St. Clair, Aidan Afonso, and Sean Finerty took 2-4 in time of 4:35.8, 4:44.1, and 4:50.3. (Check Lisa's pics of the race- really impressive watching our guys run away from everyone else...)

Cody Gehrett took both the hurdles races, winning the 110 HH with a fine time of 15.7, and coming back to win the 300 IM in 44.9. Mateusz took 2nd in both races, running 17.4 in the HH, and 45.8 in the IM.

Our final win of the day came in the last event, the 4 x 400 relay. The team of Carter Schorr, Mikey Parduhn, Robert St. Clair, and Cody Gehrett fought back challenges from Stevenson the whole way, finally pulling away to win in 4:38.

Lots of other fine performances last night, and a great over all effort. Can't remember the last time we beat Stevenson in a dual. Next up- the Cross Town Classic against Carmel this Saturday. Both the boys and girls teams will host Carmel for Mundelein bragging rights. The starting time has been moved back to 10AM to take advantage of the warmer temps expected. Hope to see everyone there!
Go Mustangs!
