Recognition


FBLA students qualify for national competition
Students and advisors of the Mundelein High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA] traveled to and competed at the State Leadership Conference in Springfield April 6 and 7. More than 30 members competed, either at the conference or beforehand, in various events that tested their business leadership skills. The Mundelein chapter of FBLA was awarded 7th in the Largest Local Chapter award.

Of those who competed, several Mundelein FBLA members placed high enough to qualify, as an individual or as a team, to continue on to the National Leadership Conference. Nationals to be held in Baltimore, Maryland June 28 through July 1.

Four juniors selected for Illinois Boys, Girls State
Four Mundelein High School juniors were recently selected to represent their school at the summer Boys and Girls State “conventions” usually held on university campuses and sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

Diego Cisneros and Charles Fladhammer will be at Eastern Illinois University where event will involve participants learning the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of citizenship. Although fictional political parties are created and the citizens are randomly assigned to one, Boys State is

nonpartisan in the sense of US or Illinois political parties. The hands-on political and governmental elements of the program center around creating and facilitating city, county, and state governments. Boys State activities include various levels of legislative sessions, political party caucuses, four different election cycles, general assemblies, band concerts, law enforcement presentations, recreational programs, and more.

Isabel Alviar and Sydnie Mathews will represent MHS at Illinois Girls State. American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State is a week long program dedicated to providing training for young women in city, county, and state government.They are placed into a two party system and will run for office, campaign, vote, and write legislation pertinent to American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State as well as the state and nation.

They will also hear from guest speakers in the political arena (present and past), veterans and/or active service men and women, American Legion Auxiliary members, and motivational speakers.  Americanism and flag etiquette are taught this week as well. The goal is also to give young women confidence and knowledge to go forward in their adult lives and not be afraid to go for their dreams.


Activities


Band
On April 12th the MHS Band Program welcomed the new Illinois State University Band Director, Dr. Tony Marinello, to Mundelein High School.  While he was here, he worked with students on their music for upcoming concerts.



The Evening of Jazz
The Evening of Jazz will be hosted in the Mundelein High School Cafeteria on Sunday, May 6th starting at 5pm.  The evening includes a silent auction, raffles, and great jazz music by the Mundelein High School jazz bands.  We hope you will be able to make it!



American Legion Poppies

All-Area Art Show at MHS April 26, 27; 10 schools featured
For the third year, the Mundelein High School Art Department will host the Mundelein All-Area Art Show in the main gym Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27. A formal reception will take place
April 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The day hours are 10:30 a.m.-3:05 p.m. on April 26 and 7:45 a.m.-11:25 p.m. on April 27. Admission is free.

Each of the elementary and middle school districts that send students to MHS has been invited to participate in the show. This includes Carl Sandburg Middle School, Diamond Lake Elementary, Fairhaven School, Fremont Intermediate, Fremont Middle School, Lincoln Elementary, Mechanics Grove Intermediate, MHS, Washington Elementary and West Oak Middle School. All forms of artistic expression will be on display, including but not limited to, painting, drawing, sculpture, photo, collage, mixed media, etc. Many of the student artists will also be on hand.


“It is one of the highlights of the year for all participating parties as it brings student artists from all levels together side by side to exhibit student achievement in the visual arts,” said Jonathan Pruc, MHS art faculty member. Michael Bale and Peter Schrenk also teach in the art department at MHS. David Mork is the fine and applied arts department chair.


MHS Blood Drive

Hey Juniors!
You’re only months away from the summer before your senior year, and hopefully that means that you’re preparing yourself for the college applications that you will be completing this coming fall.  Most likely, you have some questions about how to be ready to complete the process in the best way possible. Good news!  We have sessions set up to help you feel confident and prepared.

The MHS College Ambassadors will be hosting College Planning Sessions for Juniors over the course of the next month.  Sign up for one or sign up for all.  To register, go to the Colleges tab in your Naviance account and click “view all upcoming visits” on the right hand side.  Select Sign Up and confirm that you would like to attend, and we’ll see you there!


2018 Festival de Familias En EDUCATIÓN
