PARCC & ACT Testing Next Week

Next week, MHS will begin PARCC testing for 9th grade students and ACT for 11th grade students.  Below, a schedule of testing dates have been included.  For more information, click HERE for the MHS testing website.

The best way for a student to prepare for these exams at this time is to have a good night sleep, a healthy breakfast, and hydrate by drinking water.

PARCC Day 1 
Monday, March 14 (1st day of Term 4)
All freshmen (English exam) will test during 1st period and HR in the Main and North Gyms.

Algebra students will continue to test through 2nd period. These students will be excused from their 2nd period class.

ACT & PARCC Day 2
Tuesday, March 15 (2nd day of Term 4)
This is a testing day, therefore students not testing will not attend school.

ACT: All 3rd year students will take the ACT exam. Regular testing will be from 7:45am-11:30am. Students with accommodations may take longer.

PARCC: All freshmen will take two English exams to complete the English Assessment.

BUSES: Buses will run a normal morning pick-up route. Two bus routes (11:45am and 3:30pm) will run for students when their exams are complete.

PARCC Days 3-4
Thursday, March 17 and Thursday, April 7
The remaining two math exams would be administered for only the Algebra 1 students.
Test administration will start at 7:45am and will be completed during the late-start portion of the day.

Buses will run a normal morning pick-up route in addition to the late start route.

2016-2017 Registration
Online registration for the 2016-2017 school year has begun.  Information and registration codes (Snap codes) have been mailed home to all current students.  View registration information on the D120 website (www.d120.org) and go to the “Registration” link on the left hand side.  Parents and guardians may upload proof of residency documents via the online registration program, mail them in, or have a student bring them into the Main Office. Parents and guardians of current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors must complete registration online and provide residency documents by May 27, 2016. Payment of 2016-2017 School fees
If parents and guardians submit registration payment by March 30, 2016, they will receive the early rate of $200.00. For any payments received after March 30, 2016, the standard rate of $225.00 will apply.  A mandatory $50.00 technology fee is also assessed in order to support district hardware, and licensing agreements, and the use of a MHS issued Chromebook. Payment of school fees may be done online (www.d120.org - find the “RevTrak” link), in person at the Bookstore/Payment Center during school hours, or checks may be sent in the mail.  Please call 847-949-2200 ext. 1235 with any questions regarding school fees and payment.

#BakerBrave Fundraiser
Quest Food Services will host a fundraiser in the cafeteria on March 17, 2016.

They will be selling shamrock cookies for $1.00 & Mint shakes for $2.00.

All proceeds will benefit Maureen Baker (MHS Special Education teacher) and family to support two year Noah and his fight against Neuroblastoma.

MHS junior brings home gold from state art exhibition
Mundelein High School junior, Michael Del Rosario, won the Gold Prize for Photography at the Illinois High School Art Education [IHSAE] General Exhibition held March 6 in Chicago. Each year more than 100 city, suburban, public and private high schools participate from across the Chicagoland area. Schools enter more than 2,500 student works of art in to several categories for adjudication.




“The IHSAE General Exhibition is a ‘Best of the Best’ high school art competition developed to recognize students for their artistic excellence [akin to State Finals for Art],” said Jonathan Pruc, MHS art instructor.

Del Rosario is among the 500 student artists selected will now have the opportunity to compete against each other for IHSAE awards and scholarships.

SoundFX earns first runner-up in Chicagoland Showcase
Mundelein High School's all-male show choir, SoundFX, was named first runner-up in the Chicagoland Showcase held March 5 at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. SoundFX and Lights performed in the unisex division while Sound sang in the open class division. SoundFX earned their first runner-up position in a field of seven top show choirs from the Midwest. Six MHS students also competed in the solo competition at the event where Dominic Cappuccilli earned second place in the men's division.



The MHS show choirs will wrap up their competitive season March 18-20 at the LaCrosse Central Grand River Show Choir Invitational.

Group Interpretation
Rehearsals for MHS’s 2016 Group Interpretation production of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One are underway. Performaces will be March 16 and Friday, March 18 at 7pm in the MHS Auditorium. Adult admission $5.00, student and senior $3.00.














Music Invite
The Mundelein High School Music Department will host its the 51st. Mundelein Invitational on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Twenty six  bands will be playing for some of the best Jazz Educators in the Chicago Area. You can find a list of performance time on the following link click here for schedule of events. MHS staff hosted Variety Show to benefit one of their own families
The staff of Mundelein High School rallied around the needs of one of their own to present a staff talent show Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. The event raised upwards of $1300. which will go directly to ‪#‎BakerBrave. "You have all left me speechless! Matt, Avery and I were so happy that we were able to be there tonight witness the unbelievable show," said Maureen Baker, MHS faculty member whose son, Noah is dealing with difficult medical issues. "I am so honored to work with the best 'village' there is out there!"






The show included a number of varied acts and staff members from almost every department in the high school.

"Our performers were amazing, all the behind the scenes people were incredible, and what great support from those of you that not only attended but encouraged our students to attend," said Jeff Harding, math instructor and organizer of the event. "It was absolutely a magical evening. It sure made me proud to be a Mustang!"

MHS Student Variety Show set for Thursday, March 17.
Following last week’s Staff Variety Show, the students at Mundelein High School are holding their own show Thursday, March 17, beginning at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. The admission is a suggested donation of $2 and all proceeds will go to the same charity to help the family of an MHS staff member. Prizes will be raffled from local businesses and will also include a free Prom ticket.
Variety will be the theme as a number of different acts will perform during the show. Some of those will include a jazz band ensemble, juggler, beatboxer, singing groups and solos, a DJ, a rapper, an Indian Dancer and a ballet dance, among others.

Orchesis Show set for Monday, March 14.
Mundelein High School’s Orchesis Club will present its dance show Monday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. Cost of the show is $4 for adults, $3 for students and seniors.

The show will feature solos, duets and small group dances choreographed and performed by MHS Orchesis members. The MHS PE Dance class will also perform their Term 3 class dances. In addition, young dancers from the community will showcase their dance alongside Orchesis members based on their participation in a youth dance clinic held March 6.

Free STEM Career Expo at Fermilab
Fermilab in Batavia, Illinois is hosting a free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Career Expo for Chicagoland high school students on Wednesday, April 20th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Fermilab's Wilson Hall in Batavia.

Career representatives may include: Acoustics Engineer, Actuary, Analytical Chemist, Astrophysicist, Biologist, Biotechnologist, Chemical Engineer, Chemist, Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Environmental Scientist, Food Scientist, Forensic Scientist, Geologist, Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Engineer, Optical Engineer, Physicist, Software Engineer, Statistician, and more!

No pre-registration is required.  Parking is free and available on the west side of Wilson Hall.  Overflow parking is available at the Lederman Science Center.  Enter Wilson Hall on the ground or first floor.

CLC hosts Science Olympiad March 12
About 1,000 middle and high school science students will gather at the College of Lake County on Saturday, March 12 for the Grayslake Regional Science Olympiad Competition.

With event titles such as “Bottle Rocket,” “Forensics,” “Wind Power” and “Robot Arm,” the events allow students to do cool science experiments and participate in heated competitions. The 2016 Science Olympiad runs from 7:40 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The competitions will be held at locations throughout the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Some of the most popular and spectator-friendly events involve robots, bridge building, wheeled vehicles and elastic launch gliders, and visitors are invited to watch the events. CLC faculty members will serve as event supervisors.

The top five middle school teams and the top four high school teams advance to the state competition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. For information on the competition, visit www.illinoisolympiad.org.

Registration for summer and fall classes begins March 10
Registration begins March 10 for the College of Lake County’s three-week Intersession (May 17 to June 3) and eight-week Summer Session (June 6 to July 30) as well as the Fall Semester (Aug. 22 to Dec. 16). College Signing
Zachary Zagula has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Adrian College in Michigan.

During his high school career he was on the baseball team, a member of Student Athletes Leadership Team [SALT] and was part of the NSC Leadership. Zach plans to major in advertising.




LZMW Hockey
Sunday, March 13 at 12:40pm at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. LZMW Varsity will play Mt. Carmel in a quarterfinal game of the State Championships in the Varsity White division. The State Championships are hosted by AHAI, the state's governing body. AHAI is charging an admission fee of $3.00.

LZMW and Mt. Carmel have similar seeds, so even though we have no common opponents, on paper it looks like a good match.

Our LZMW coaches and players will give everything they have to bring home a WIN.

Dance Team
The varsity  Dance team this winter had a team GPA of 3.852 with all 13 members having a GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Congratulation ladies!

Picture Day
Spring sport picture day will be Tuesday, March 15th after school.  Please see your coach for time and place.

Best part of working at MHS? – The whole community.  I really enjoy the relationships I have with both my colleagues and the students I teach/coach.

You may not know…  I was a ski bum in Jackson, WY for a year after college.

Who or what inspires you? – My 5-month old baby girl is such a blessing and has given me a renewed excitement in life.
