Athletics

Boys Lacrosse

Coaches Corner: Zach Michal

On Saturday, April 9th, the Boys Lacrosse Team hosted a First Responders Tribute event before our game against Antioch.  It was a huge success, as we had over 20 FireFighters and Policemen and women from all over Lake County.  It was a great opportunity for our young men to create relationships, unforgettable memories, and grow as a team both on and off the field.  In addition to the amazing experience, both our JV and Varsity put on a great performance for Lake County's finest with wins from both teams!

Girls Soccer

Beautiful night for Girls’ Varsity Soccer underneath the lights on Tuesday evening vs. Highland Park.

Boys Tennis

Coaches Corner: Greg Cohen

1)  Mustang Boys Tennis is starting to see the heavy part of our schedule.  The Varsity lost 6-1 at Libertyville on 4/12.  They host Lake Zurich on Thursday while traveling to Maine South for an invitational on Saturday.  The following week they travel to Zion-Benton, host Lake Forest, travel to Wauconda, and then host the six team Mustang Duals.  The JV played at Lockport on Saturday for an eight team tournament.  Logan Green ended one game away from earning a medal at #1 Singles.

Boys Water Polo

Coaches Corner: Russ Gates

Last Week, the Boys Mustang Water Polo team defeated conference rival and #11 state ranked Libertyville with a nail biting score of 11-10.  This brought their record to 8-2 in the last 10 games.  Last night, the senior boys were honored at their senior night against Warren Township High School.

Boys Track & Field

Coaches Corner: Kurt Rutz

At the double-dual meet against Zion and Waukegan, stand out performances came from Sophomore Drew Patrick and Senior, Jacob Lichter. After competing in his scheduled events, the 4x800 relay and the open 400, Drew stepped up as a substitute in the 4x400 proving once again what a great team contributor he is. Jacob also ran the open 400 but had been chasing an elusive goal of running under 60 seconds over the years. Training hard again this season, he also promised the team he would be shaving his head if he achieved his goal – guess who’s heading to the barber!  Our next meet was at Libertyville with two athletes running personal bests in the very same race with Freshmen Javier Mata clocking 4:46 in the mile and Marco De La Cruz crossing in 4:49. The team will be competing at Lane Tech on the 14th and then traveling to Springfield, Illinois to compete in the Lanphier Invitational thanks to our successful Spring mattress fund-raiser. We truly appreciate all who came and supported us.  Monday, April 18th we return to MHS for our only home meet of the season at which we will be celebrating our seniors. Come out and support them and all our athletes have some Mundy pride! We'd love to see you.

Boys Volleyball

Coaches Corner: Dressen & Willis

Last week, 3 levels took a win against Waukegan (Fr/So, JV, V) and then the Varsity went to the Warren Invite over the weekend where they went 2-3 scoring wins against Lakes and Carmel, but losing to Wheaton North, Palatine, and Niles North in very close sets. On Monday, the team traveled to Wheeling where we swept all 3 levels. The sets were tight, so it was an exciting game to watch.Congratulations to our senior athletes Tyler Vrska and Jordan Schneckloth who signed their letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their volleyball careers in college. Tyler will be playing at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, next year, and Jordan will be playing at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. They join senior Ryan McElligott who has already committed to playing volleyball at Loyola University in Chicago next year. We are so proud of our athletes! Looking ahead, the Varsity team plays at the Lake County Tournament at Grant High School on Thursday evening & Saturday morning. And then all levels play at home on Monday against Antioch and on Wednesday against Libertyville. It is going to be an exciting week!

Coaches Corner: Vince DeFrancesco

Alumni Corner

We also had a great alumni performance this weekend.  Carter Schorr ('20) won the 3000 Steeplechase at the U of I Invitational yesterday.  Competing for Butler University, Carter ran a fine time of 9:08, winning by 7 seconds.  Way to go, Carter!
