MHS partners with Round Lake and Wauconda high schools for bilingual Access College Fair
Mundelein High School will host the Access College Fair, the second annual bilingual college fair in Lake County on Wednesday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Main Gym. In collaboration with Round Lake High School and Wauconda High School, MHS will welcome 30-40 college representatives who are fluent in both English and Spanish. Students from all school districts in Lake County and surrounding areas are welcome.

The representatives will speak with students and their families about the college application process and help them learn about the opportunities that they have to continue their education. Bilingual financial aid overview sessions will also be hosted by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). The English presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Spanish presentation at 7 p.m.

Students are encouraged to register for this opportunity at StriveFair.com. Registration is not required but it will allow students to connect and share and receive information from the colleges that will be in attendance. If a district is interested in bringing a bus of families to the Access College Fair, please contact Andrea Rusk (arusk@d120.org) or Samantha Rivera (srivera@d120.org) to let them know.

College & Career Center

This is the last week of college representative visits in the CCRC (B103). Take advantage of this great opportunity to learn about different schools and make a connection with admissions counselors!

Are you interested in enlisting in the military? Students interested in any of these military branches are welcome to speak with recruiters during their lunch period.

Do you have questions or concerns about navigating the college process as a student with a learning difference or special need? Come join us for a presentation that will help students with an IEP or 504 and their families in navigating the transition to college.

The phenomenal presenter for the event is Elizabeth Gorman, the Director of Student Access Services at Bradley University. She is incredibly well versed in assisting students with this process and her advice will be applicable to all students, no matter where they choose to go to college.

The presentation will include information about choosing a college, self-advocacy, and skills students need to be successful in college.

Going to college is a financial investment in your future, and it can feel overwhelming at times.
Part of choosing the best school for you depends on what that financial commitment looks like. We invited Courtney Wallace, the Director of Admissions from Augustana College, to help students break down their financial aid award letters from different schools and offer some tips to help them through the decision-making process. Students are encouraged to come to the CCRC (B103) on Tuesday, April 2 during 4th or 5th period to participate in this important workshop.

Students may register to attend this event in Naviance by clicking on the “Colleges” tab → “Home” →  Scroll down to the bottom where it says “College Visits”→ “Show More”→ Click the “Register” button next to the class period thye plan to attend.

Returning players: Matt Allore (Sr.), Jake Garcia (Sr.), Hunter Magee (Sr.), Ryan Zentz (Sr.), Danny Oleinik (So.)

Outlook: After an unexpected exit in the sectional semifinals a year ago, the fire and fuel are there for the senior-heavy Mustangs. "This group has used that as motivation to prepare for a state run in the 2019 season," coach Russ Gates said. Logan Bradshaw is ready to fill the big shoes left by graduated all-state goalie Shane Stanley. The Mustangs return their top three scorers (Danny Oleinik, Jake Garcia, Ryan Zentz), top three in assists (Matt Allore, Garcia, Oleinik), and top three in steals (Garcia, Oleinik, Allore). And with all-around player Hunter Magee returning, that leaves only one new spot in the starting rotation from last year. "With depth coming in from our newcomers, this will be one of the fastest teams Mundelein has ever fielded," Gates said.

Girls Coach: Mike Vukovics (third season)
Last season: 24-9, lost to Stevenson in sectional finals
Key players lost: Abbie Lukas, Amanda Garcia, Carolyn Westgate
Returning players: Ella Krauss (Sr.), Casey Parker (Sr.), Angela Kordick (Sr.), Natalie Gray (Sr.), Hannah Stanley (Jr.), Sydney Bradshaw (Jr.), Audry Kasemets (So.).
Outlook: The Mustangs are expecting great things this season. "We have great leadership from our returning players and captains," coach Mike Vukovics said. "And this is the first time I have witnessed a connection amongst our swim program and polo program. We have 16 new players who came over from swim." The Mustangs' speed will allow them to play fast and counter against opponents. "We are a team that focuses on hard work, fundamentals and a team-first mentality," Vukovics said. "If we apply these three things, good things will happen." Winning the North Suburban and a state appearance are goals for Mundelein this spring. "We are very young, but the girls want to be great and are all coachable," Vukovics said. "They have the right mindset. Now we just need to put it all together."
