Happy New Year 2018!

Semester 2 Starts @ MHS

After more than two weeks off for Winter Break, MHS comes back to life as students and staff return from a restful break.  The new semester offers everyone a chance to focus on new goals, try something new, or turn over a new leaf.  Whatever it may be, MHS staff is here to help make it happen.  Please let us know what we can do to make 2018 a great year!

There have been some upgrades to the building over break.  New LED lights were installed in the cafeteria making a brighter environment.  In addition, the cafeteria is also sporting a new paint job in school colors and new projection / speaker system for a better presentation experience.  The auditorium soundboard was upgraded to a high quality digital model in order to support the growing needs for professional level shows.  The main hallways were painted to provide a more unified look.  New bulletin boards were added and a large digital monitor will be hung soon to mirror the monitor in the new addition. Finally, check out the new MHS website! www.d120.org !  The new website was rolled out this weekend with a new look and functionality!  In particular, this site will respond better to the type of device it is being viewed from.  Truly impressive!

Let us know what you think about the new improvements the next time you come into the building.  Until then, Happy New Year!

Dr. Anthony Kroll

MHS to welcome Class of 2022 and their parents to Curriculum Night
Mundelein High School officials will welcome the incoming freshman class of 2022 at a Curriculum Night and Activities/Athletics Fair at MHS on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The evening is intended for parents and students alike.

The program will include an overview of academic programs and an orientation to the course selection process. Placement recommendations will also be distributed for core classes for the 2018-2019 school year, the date/time of the students’ course selection appointment and registration materials.

Incoming freshmen will be dismissed from the auditorium to participate in a separate program hosted by Link Crew, a group of junior/senior students who serve as freshman ambassadors. It will include prizes, food, contest and many Mustang gear giveaways. They will also learn more about the classes, activities, athletics and special events that MHS has to offer.

Parents and students with last names A-L should arrive at the auditorium by 6 p.m. for a 30-minute presentation about curricular programs. Parents and students with last names M-Z will attend the 7:15 p.m. session in the auditorium. The presentation will also be offered in Spanish in the cafeteria during both sessions. The activities and athletic fair will take place in the Main Gym immediately following the formal presentation.

Mundelein High School’s spirit store, Mustang Nation, will also be open for business to purchase spirit wear for the coming school year.

MHS parents invited to hear motivational speaker on parenting styles
BStrong Together, a Barrington High School parent group, is inviting parents of Mundelein High School to attend a free parent program “The Self-Motivated Kid:  Raising Healthy, Happy Kids in This Modern World” on Tuesday, Jan. 30 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the BHS Auditorium. The presenter is Dr. Shimi Kang, a Harvard educated, award-winning physician, researcher, media expert, writer TEDx keynote speaker and expert on the science of human motivation.

Kang has created a four-part parenting model to guide parents as they support their children in developing their own internal motivation and lifelong love of learning.

In contrast to the pushy, hovering “tiger parents” or the permissive “jellyfish parents,” Dr. Kang’s parenting philosophy is based on the model of the dolphin – an intelligent, strong, joyful and highly socialized creature. “Dolphin parents” compassionately, yet authoritatively, guide their children while focusing on maintaining balance in their children’s lives and developing the key 21st century skills of creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking.

SAT Test Prep
On Saturday February 24th Princeton Review will be administering a free practice SAT test at Mundelein High School from 9:00 am-1:30 pm for any sophomore or junior MHS student.  Princeton Review will provide students with score reports.  However, since this is only a practice exam, these scores cannot be submitted to colleges or universities.  Additionally, because this practice test is offered by an outside company, we will be unable to offer testing accommodations for students with individualized education plans.  Any sophomore or junior can take the practice test, but we will not be offering individual testing accommodations this day.  Students who would like to take this free SAT practice exam, must go to the link below to register. Registration will close on Friday February 16th at 12:00 am.
