The Schuler Scholar Program

The Schuler Scholar Program at MHS is recruiting motivated current 8th and 9th grade students! Our goal is to help academically strong students from underrepresented backgrounds attend top colleges that offer the best opportunities and financial assistance. Some examples of the support we provide throughout high school include individual academic coaching and tutoring, field trips, family events, trips to visit colleges, and individualized guidance in applying to college and for financial assistance. Our program is free of charge to students and families who are selected through our application process. To nominate a student for consideration, please email the MHS Schuler Scholar Program School Director, Melissa Muth Martinez: melissam@schulerprogram.org.

Boys Swim/Dive Coaches Corner

Joey Kafka placed 5th and Johnny Anno placed 2nd last Saturday at the Niles West Invite.

Girls Bowling Coaches Corner

The Mustangs Girls Bowling Team is on a roll.  Varsity and JV teams beat Lake Zurich.  Shoutouts to Rebecca Gokhman and Alexia Pacheco for high scores this week and the Varsity team for a high team score.  The Libertyville JV Invitational is this weekend at Lakeside Lanes where Mundelein will have two teams competing.  Come cheer us on!

Wrestling Coaches Corner

A very successful weekend for the Mustangs.  Varsity traveled to Westfield High School in Indiana for the first time in Mustangs History.  They went 3-2 in the duals beating Greensatle 72-12, Nobleville 21-48, and Fishers 42-38.  We fell short to Homestead 35-23, and Carmel Indiana 49-15.  Bryce Durlacer came back home with 5 wins and 5 pins bringing his record to 10-1.  Pablo Bacerra went 3-2 moving his record to 9-2, Mac Raastelli went 4-1 and is now 7-3, while Ty Murray followed Mac's 3-2 win and now is 7-3 of the season.  Finally, flexing Abisi Hernandez to 220 and HWT for duals and went 5-0 moving his record to 9-2.

The JV went to the Deerfield Tournament and came home with 3 champions.  Ozzy Bahena, Alex Konewko, and Tarrence Moore went 3-0 to gain the Deerfield Crown.  A few wrestlers went 2-1 as James Kusinski moved his record to 6-1 and Max Villaraza finally got back on the mat dealing with injuries.  Hugo Lugo also went 2-1 for the Mustangs.  Our Mundelein JV Outstanding wrestler of the tournament was Ozzy Bahena who is now 8-0 on JV hoping to get some Varsity mat time this season.

The Freshman and our Girls  Team received some matches over the weekend at Carmel High School.  They came back with Champions: Danny Hernandez now 11-0 and Oliver Van de Motter went 2-1.  Keep Grinding this weekend.

This weekend will be a busy week wrestling 3 days in a row.  Thursday we will have a Home Meet vs. Stevenson, Friday we will travel to Waukegan, and Tournament Saturday for all levels.

Boys Basketball Coaches Corner

During the Thanksgiving tournaments for basketball.  All levels competed for the championship.  Freshmen won the championship at Wheeling, Sophomores took 2nd at Lakes, and Varsity took 2nd at the Mundelein/Grant Tournament.  Clearly a strong start for the entire program.

Since the tournaments, all levels have continued in their successful ways while also learning how to play through injuries.  This has involved others picking up teammates and playing in uncommon situations and positions.  These are the foundations for sports and how to excel when the situation toughens.

Currently, the varsity is tied for 1st at 1-0 in the North Suburban Conference, Sophomores had a tough loss on a last second shot and are tied for 2nd in the NSC, while the freshmen came from behind and secured victory to also be tied for 1st place.

Next games:  Saturday @ Waukegan, Next Wednesday home vs. Warren

Previous Reminders

Attendance

Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for success.  Students are expected to attend each class and be on time.  Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. If your student is going to be absent from school, please call the Attendance Line 847-949-2200 ext. 1998 (Spanish) ext. 1999 (English) by 10:00 am.

What is Good Attendance?

Our MHS Attendance Committee felt it was important to create a simple and clear visual that students and families can reference to understand our expectations surrounding what good attendance looks like. See below for more information.

Bus Notifications

Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late? For Mundelein bus routes, Lakeside Transportation is using the Bus Bulletin notification system to notify parents and students when there are bus delays and schedule changes. For more information, or to sign-up and start receiving notifications, please visit:

www.busbulletin.com/parents (Find Mundelein Area Schools when prompted for a district) *Note - This is managed by Lakeside Bus Company and not MHS.

Technology Use

Students will utilize technology to support their learning in class.  Students are reminded to use their Chromebooks and cell phones appropriately at all times.  For further information about technology use, please refer to the student handbook located on the District web page - 2022-2023 Student/Parent Handbook
