Mustang News: Principal’s Blog

Mustang Families,

We all want our students to succeed. But success goes beyond just academic achievements. A key goal of MHS is to set up students for success after they leave high school, regardless of the pathway they choose. And that means equipping students with the skills needed to experience successful transitions as they navigate their learning journey.

Next week, MHS will be celebrating our annual College Week! We are so excited to offer a variety of events throughout the week of October 11-14 to help our seniors apply to college and find their future fit. Register for all events in your Naviance account! Please see below for more information!

If you have any questions, please call the Main Office at 847-949-2200.

Sincerely,

Alexandria Rios Taylor

ANOTHER STRONG WEEK!

This past weekend we split our squads up, with the Varsity Squad traveling to Peoria to compete on the State Meet course while the rest of the team ran at Fox River Park in the Antioch Invite.

At Peoria all 6 of our runners ran major Personal Records (PRs), starting with Javier Mata who ran a spectacular race, taking 12th overall and running 15:06, a PR of 36 seconds. Alberto Diaz was next in, breaking 16 minutes for the first time, running 15:51. Logan Ramirez broke 17 for the first time, running 16:55. Finn Keegan and Nick Schwenk both ran 17:01, and freshman Nathan McCreight ran 17:07. As a team, our boys took 21st of 36 teams.

At Antioch, our guys ran a tough, tough course, but one that is one of the best around. Representing Mundelein in the Varsity race, freshmen Andrew Weaver and Elijah Mendoza led the way, and showed why they are nipping at the heels of the top 7. Taking 28th and 29th, they ran 18:39 and 18:40, great times for freshmen at a difficult course.

In the JV race, freshman Kessler Magrow continued his return from illness, leading the way with a 44th place finish, and a time of 21:42. In fact, our entire JV squad consisted of freshmen, as James-Glaskin-Clay, Chase Moy, Liam O'Neill, and Malachy Ning all pitched in.

This week we also completed our dual meet season with a pair of wins over Lake Forest and Stevenson. The team was led by Mata and Diaz, who went 1-2. Ramirez was 6th overall, Keegan, Mendoza (with a PR and first top 7 finish), and McCreight going 8, 9, 10.

We end the Regular Season with a 5-1 record. This is our best season in several years, and, I think, an indication of what is to come in future years. Great job, Mustangs!!!

Next Meets: The team travels to the Lakes Community Invitational on Friday, October 7th and then we have a breather until Saturday, October 15th against Lake Forest and others.

Thank you to all for your support of our Cancer Awareness Night! Whether you have promoted the event on social media, bought a t-shirt, or put together a basket for the raffle, it has been wonderful to see our MHS community come together to support the Lynn Sage Foundation. We are truly grateful to be part of such a caring community! Varsity, Sophomores, and Freshman B teams defeated Lakes on Tuesday and played well-fought matches against Vernon Hills on Friday. Varsity volleyball is looking forward to playing 5 matches at the Lake Forest Invitational on Saturday. And then after the long weekend, all levels return to the road next week to play at Lake Zurich on Wednesday, October 12.

No pictures from our final dual meet at Lake Forest on Tuesday, but we saw continued growth and time drops! Out of 17 runners, 12 had lifetime bests, including 4 of our top 5!! Additionally, we had 3 more season bests & 1 course best! So proud of the team’s continued growth!

After some great races, we got to honor our amazing seniors for Senior Night! Praise, Aliana, Abby, Julia, Isabella, Dulce, and Ximena, thank you for your hard work and dedication to our team. We love you

9 Varsity runners traveled down to Peoria last weekend to compete at a very competitive race on the state course. Praise, Molly, Vivi, Amber, Aliana, Abby, and Isabella SMASHED their previous lifetime & season records & placed 14th out of 23 teams at Peoria! We had 4 lifetime & 3 season bests, including Praise who broke 19 for the first time (18:46) & placed 27th to earn a medal!

Can’t forget about our JV squad that killed it at the Antioch Invite at Fox River Park! Not only did the JV place 4th out of 14 teams, but Alea got 2nd in the JV race to earn a medal and Rey was 24th to earn a ribbon too!

Girls Diving - Coaches Corner Melissa Sethna

The divers placed 4th, 5th, and 6th at Fremd.
