Freshman who were not photographed at Orientation should have their yearbook photo taken on the October retake day.   Access the VIP (Visual Image Photography) ordering instructions here.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15-October 15 to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. During this month, our Puertas student organization will conduct announcements highlighting Hispanic contributions while our Teaching & Learning team will provide culturally relevant content for classroom integration that highlight Latin literature, history and art. Additionally, our Community Business Coordinator will also hold a Hispanic Heritage Career panel for all of our students. See here or here to learn more.

Rosh HaShanah & Yom Kippur

From September 25-27 some of our Jewish students will be observing Rosh HaShanah which marks the beginning of a 10-day period of introspection. It culminates with Yom Kippur, October 4-5 which requires a 24-hour fasting period and is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Some students may participate in additional prayers and observances throughout these dates and may be more tired than usual. We recognize that some students may be absent during this time and may require additional time to turn in assignments. Students are encouraged to speak directly to their teacher if they will need additional time for assignments or alternate dates for assessments. To learn more, click here or here for additional information.

PSAT/NMSQT

Attention Juniors, important information here about the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test which will be administered at MHS on October 12, 2022.

YouScience

Exciting news!  Beginning this month, Mundelein High School freshman students began taking the YouScience assessment during their FAM (Freshman Advisory) sessions. We believe YouScience is a great way for students to learn more about themselves, explore high-demand careers that are a good fit for them, and gain a better understanding of how their unique talents are needed in the economy.  Click HERE to learn more about YouScience and what it means for your student.

Be a STEAMScholar!

The Illinois Tenth Congressional District STEAM Scholar Program is an exciting educational opportunity launched by Congressman Brad Schneider in 2018 for high school students in our community. The program aims to connect highly-motivated students interested in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics with hands-on learning experiences throughout our district.

In the fall, students selected to participate in the STEAM Scholars program will have the opportunity to join Congressman Schneider on visits to four STEAM-related businesses and facilities during the 2022-2023 school year. On these visits, students will have the chance to participate in discussions with local employees, business owners, and educators, and learn more about the STEAM career opportunities in our backyard.

Girls Soccer - Spring 2022 - Coaches Corner Seong Ha

I just wanted to share this announcement today from the United Soccer Coaches National Office with the 2022 Mundelein Girls' Varsity Soccer team being named one of 185 schools for the High School Team Academic Award with a team GPA of 3.71!  GO MUSTANGS!

Girls Tennis - Coaches Corner - Derek Gablenz

Girls tennis update - Junior #1 singles player Gabi Lipske (right) and Senior #2 singles player Leila Moon (left) have a combined record of 17-3.   The team has started their NSC schedule and will compete in the Grayslake Central Invite this weekend.

Girls Diving - Coaches Corner - Melissa Sethna

The girls Varsity diving team had their first 11 dive meet this weekend. Charlotte Oliver placed 4th and Addison Hagel placed 5th.

Girls Volleyball - Coaches Corner - Calaeb Campbell & Beth Willis

Now that we are in the swing of things, Girls Volleyball continues to improve. Serving, passing, and serve receive have gotten more consistent as the teams put some game experience under their belts. With another win against Wauconda, our confidence is growing as well. We are looking forward to next week’s matches against Grayslake North on Monday and against  Waukegan on Wednesday. Congratulations to our Sophomores who took third place in the silver bracket this past weekend playing five grueling matches at their weekend tournament. Keep up the good work! Go Mustangs!

Boys Soccer - Coaches Corner - Sebastian Falinski

The Boys Soccer Program along with Warren High School will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Night on Sept 20.  Free giveaways for fans will be in abundance while supplies last. Come out and enjoy a great atmosphere supporting a great cause.

Girls Golf - Coaches Corner - Tom Kuhn

The Mustangs earned their first dual meet victory of the season Friday 9/2 over Highland Park. Senior Alex Devine led the way with a career low 49, followed by seniors Lucy Vecchie, Taiylor Egbert and Alyssa Johnson.

On Tuesday 9/6, Lucy Vecchie shot a 48 in a loss to Warren on the very challenging Bittersweet golf course.

Boys Cross Country - Coaches Corner - Kurt Rutz

Last week the team was at the Art Campbell Lake County Invitational, named for our very own, legendary XC and Track coach. Our Mustangs had a great night, demonstrating how much we've already improved over last year. The varsity squad took 6th out of 16 teams, after taking 14th last year. We beat all 5 of the conference teams who were there.  The team was led by sophomore Javier Mata, who took 3rd overall in only his 2nd high school XC race. Sophomore Alberto Diaz also earned All-County honors with his 15th place finish, with junior Tom Russ close behind in 18th. Junior Nick Schwenk took 80th sophomore Logan Ramirez took 92nd, and sophomore Finn Keegan took 104th.

In the Open Race we were led by a pair of freshmen, as Andrew Weaver took 2nd out of 217 runners, and Nathan McCreight took 11th as our open squad also took 6th. Junior Ethan Moy took 24th, sophomore Damian Harrison took 41st, and freshman Elijjah Mendoza took 46th to close out the scoring.

A tough 5k course to open on, and I'm thrilled with all our performances.

This week our home opener was moved given downed trees on the home course.  We were appreciative that Warren Township HS let us host the meet on their course. A great effort by our Mustangs followed as we beat Libertyville 23-32, and Warren 21-34. Tom Russ led the way as the overall winner in a fine time of 16:10. Javier Mata and Alberto Diaz took 3rd and 4th overall. Finn Keegan ran his best race ever, finishing 4th for the Mustangs, and 9th overall. Freshman Nathan McCreight closed out the Mustang scoring by taking 12th overall.

Alumni Update: Nathan Clapp ran his first marathon this past week.  Congrats to Nathan!

Next Meet: The team travels to the Lanphier Invitational in Springfield to run against team from across the state – always a good measure of where we stand outside of Lake County. The team then returns to the Waukegan Sports Complex against Waukegan and Zion-Benton on Tuesday, September 13th.

Girls Cross Country - Coaches Corner - Carsyn Rodriguez
