MUSTANG NEWS

BACK TO SCHOOL

AUGUST 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I trust that June and July have been good to our families and that our students are excited to begin the 2022-2023 school year. MHS remains committed to creating a safe environment for learning while providing the best possible educational experience. Please see below for important information regarding back-to-school. As the year unfolds, I will continue to  send information home via email and the weekly Principal’s Blog beginning late August.  Parents can subscribe to the blog at mundypride.blogspot.com.

Thank you for your strong commitment to your son/daughter’s education at Mundelein High School.  I am confident that this school year will be an excellent one.  If you have any questions, please call the Main Office at 847-949-2200.

 Sincerely,

 Alexandria Rios Taylor

First day of School & Bell Schedule

The first day of attendance for students is August 17th. A 2022-203 District calendar can be found at https://www.d120.org/events/  along with a copy of the new bell schedule which features late student arrival.

Student Course Schedules

All student course schedules have been emailed in July for students who have completed the registration process.  If your child has not received a class schedule, the child may not be registered or registration is incomplete.  For Registration questions, please call Patty DeLozier, (847)949-2700 ext. 2014.  For questions regarding student schedules, please call the MHS Guidance Department (847)949-2200 ext. 1257.

Bus Routes

Bus routes for the 2022-23 school year will be emailed out to families by Friday, August 12.

Corridor Lockers

All students will be assigned a locker for the 2022-23 school year. Locker assignments (locker number, location, and combination) can be found on your student’s final schedule. Lockers have school-issued locks that must remain on the lockers.  Students may use their own locks in our PE locker rooms. We reserve the right to remove locks if entry into lockers is necessary. MHS is not responsible for items lost or stolen from corridor or locker room lockers.

Student drop-off and pick-up

Students should enter school through the main entrance or the west entrance. Drop-off and pick-up of students by car occurs only in the east parking lot and stadium parking lot.  Cars that enter southbound off of Midlothian will exit southbound back on Midlothian. Cars that enter off of Hawley will exit on to Hawley.  The west and north parking lots are not for student parking or drop-off/pick-up.  We appreciate your help in maintaining the safety of our auto and pedestrian traffic in and out of the campus.

Yearbook Pickup

Mark your calendar for yearbook pick-up through the school bookstore starting Thursday, August 4. The school bookstore hours run Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but the store is closed for lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. More information can be found at https://www.d120.org/yearbook-pick-up2/

Parent Night for parents of Freshman, New and Transfer Students

Parents of incoming freshmen and transfer/new students are invited to attend this parent night at MHS on Thursday, August 11 at 5:30pm. Parents will get an overview of the “nuts and bolts” of MHS, helping them to prepare their son/daughter for a new school. Parents will also be introduced to the many and varied resources that MHS provides for students and families. Students are not required to attend.

Freshman, New and Transfer Student Orientation

The Class of 2026, new students and transfer students will attend a very special orientation on Friday, August 12 from 8:30am-12:45pm. LinkCrew is a nationwide transition program built on the belief that students can help students succeed. Students will receive reminders from their Link Crew Leader a couple of days before. You will also receive more information on bus routes if your child is assigned a bus during the school year. Parents are welcome to drop their students off at the main entrance. More information can be found at https://www.d120.org/class-of-2026---link-crew-freshmen-orientation/.

Open House

Save the date to meet your students’ teachers and MHS’ Building Leadership Team on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:30-8:30pm.

Underclass Yearbook Photos

A retake and senior “yearbook only” day will take place in October.  Access the VIP (Visual Image Photography) ordering instructions here.

Pre-Payment for Student Meals

Mundelein High School partners with Quest Food Management Services, Inc. to provide breakfast and lunch options for our students.  If you would like to create an account so that your student does not have to use cash, please log into  www.myschoolbucks.com. Students can then use their ID cards to pay for lunch, if funds have been placed into the account. Directions for adding funds to student ID cards are on the MHS website at www.d120.org under the “STUDENTS” tab on the left side of the home page.

School Fee Waiver/Reduction Program

Mundelein High School offers an application to waive or reduce your child’s school fees.  Eligibility is based on family income per the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines.  ALL household members that receive ANY type of compensation (full-time employment, part-time employment, unemployment, alimony, child support, social security, workman’s compensation, etc.) must report the gross (before taxes) income amount.  If you wish to have your child’s 2022-23 school year registration and other fees waived or reduced to 40% of the applicable full fee values, you must submit the application by August 31.  The “Application for School Fee Reduction” will require submission of income documentation.  For more information, visit the website at www.d120.org.

Free and Reduced Meal Program

Families may apply for Free or Reduced Meals (Breakfast and Lunch) at any time during the school year.  The application is available in the Main Office or the Business Office (located at 1500 W. Hawley St.).  If your family’s financial circumstances change during the school year, please take advantage of this program, which was established under the National School Lunch Act, signed by President Harry Truman in 1946.

Health Requirements for the 2022-23  School Year

Prior to the start of this school year, all 9th grade students must have a completed school health examination (not a sports physical) with a full list of immunizations that show proof of having two (2) doses of the varicella vaccine or documented proof of having the disease (chicken pox) and a dental exam. (Physical and Dental Exams are required for all ninth graders by the State of Illinois). All 12th grade students must show proof of having received the 2nd meningococcal vaccine. All students must show proof of having two (2) doses of mumps and rubella vaccine. (This will show as two MMR’s –measles, mumps, rubella- on their vaccine record). Please check your child’s vaccine records. If a vaccine is needed, provide the nurse’s office with documentation that the vaccination was given.  For updated information, please view the MHS Nurses’ webpage:  https://www.d120.org/activities/health-services/ .

Power School

Power School is an essential tool for parents, students, and staff members at MHS.  Many parents have found their access to real-time attendance and grades very beneficial in becoming more involved in their child’s educational process. Power School also provides a great opportunity for parents to email teachers with specific questions. Passwords are the same for parents of returning students.  Passwords for new students and incoming freshmen will be mailed home prior to Open House.

Technology Campus

Classes at Lake County High Schools Technology Campus begin on Wednesday, August 17.  If your son/daughter is attending Tech Campus this year, you will receive a letter from Mr. Buenik, Guidance Department Chair.  If you do not receive this letter by 12, please contact Mr. Buenik at 847-949-2200 ext. 1262.

Athletics

All fall athletic information will be posted at the www.d120.org website under the Athletics tab. Fall Sports begin August 8, 2022. Registration for Fall Sports will need to be completed before a student athlete can try out for a sport. The Mundelein athletic code/sports information document and emergency information sheet should have been filled out during online info-snap school registration.

  • A current physical must be submitted to the nurse’s office that states that the student athlete is cleared to participate in sports. A physical is good for 395 days.

  • Each athlete will need to be passing a minimum of 5 classes each week during the fall to meet eligibility.

  • Contact Diane Risdon in the athletic office at drisdon@d120.org or call 847-949-2200 extension 1340 for more information.
