Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by Purchasing Yard Sign
Hispanic Heritage Month is almost here, and the Puertas Club students have been brainstorming ways to celebrate! We are continuing with our Hispanic Heritage Lawn Sign sale that we started last year and I wanted to share two powerpoint-sized slides that you can share with students or print out and place in your classroom to help us with the sale. Additionally, if you are interested in a sign of your own for your home or for your classroom window, they are available in Revtrack starting TODAY! We have a limited quantity this year, so don’t wait! We also plan to sell them in the Commons area on 9/9 (if we haven’t run out by then). Sign pickup will be at the front of the school from 3:00-4:30 on Monday, Sept. 13th. Thank you as always for your support!
Information on Expectations when MHS Students are Quarantined
To assist with student expectations while being quarantined for COVID19 related issues, the following information details what to expect. If your child is quarantined,
- The school will determine whether or not the student is required to quarantine within 24 hours of the reported illness call out or when a student is sent home due to a close contact or COVID symptoms.
- Students will not be able to Zoom into their classes until a confirmed quarantine is determined.
- Students who are mandated to quarantine are expected to Zoom into each of their classes if they are well enough to do so. Each day teachers will change the attendance code in PowerSchool from a Q to a B if quarantined students Zoomed into class. If a Q is in PowerSchool that day for your student(s), it means they DID NOT Zoom into class.
- All teachers have a Zoom link on their Canvas page for quarantined students.
- Quarantined students on Zoom will not receive individualized instruction rather they will observe the lesson and access their assignments and resources on Canvas.
- Canvas is our school wide learning management system that all teachers use to post their weekly assignments. Click HERE for information on parent access to Canvas.
- There may be some classes, such as P.E. and band, where Zooming into class is not possible. Students should work with these teachers to develop a plan for the days they are not in class.
- Students are expected to complete all course work assigned during the quarantine. They need to be in consistent contact with their teachers to develop a timeline for work completion.
- Assignments and any additional resources will be posted on teachers’ Canvas home page.
- Students can also contact their counselors and/or social workers with additional questions during their quarantine.
Grading Updates for the 2021-2022 School Year
At MHS we believe students’ grades should communicate what students know and are able to do in each course. Tests, quizzes, projects, and performance will serve as the majority of the grade. It is essential that students take the course assessments seriously by preparing for them in advance and meeting all required deadlines.
- If a student does not do well on an assessment, reassessment will be available this year for all summative assessments.
- Students need to talk with their teachers to develop a reassessment plan.
- Students who submit their assessment late may forfeit their reassessment opportunity
- Final exams might not be administered in all classes. Teachers will communicate the final exam plan to their students.
- Academic dishonesty is defined by any action intended to obtain credit for work which is not one's own. We take this very seriously at Mundelein High School as students will face consequences for academic dishonesty. Please see the document at the link below for our academic integrity policy.

Boys Cross Country
Coaches Corner (Kurt Rutz)
The boys cross country team has been preparing for their first meet of the season – the annual Art Campbell Invitational Meet on September 1st at the Waukegan Sports Park (run time 4:40pm). MHS is honored to participate in this meet every year as it is named for our former coach and athletic director. Although the team had to adjust workouts to account for the recent heat by moving to indoor equipment on occasion they will be ready. For some it will be the first cross country experience with MHS and for our returning runners, a good performance gauge. The team also worked the Rugged Maniac event held on the Lake Country Fairgrounds last weekend to earn money for our seasonal needs, giving their all despite the hot and humid day.

Girls Volleyball
Coaches Corner (George Dressen)
The MHS Girls Volleyball program is off to a great start! We had a huge turnout of athletes at tryouts and were able to fill 5 full teams (Freshman A & B, Sophomore, JV, and Varsity). After a strange spring COVID season last year, everyone is excited to return to a full regular fall season. The red/grey Varsity/JV scrimmage for the Back to School Night was a blast, and we anticipate a solid performance from our athletes at all levels. We have played a few matches now and are improving with each set. This Friday we play away vs Wauconda. The Volleyball Program appreciates your support. Go Mustangs!

Defense carries Mundelein to another win: By Rusty Silber Daily Herald Correspondent
Updated9/1/2021 9:24 PM
Mundelein's boys soccer team has started the season with defense leading the way. The Mustangs have allowed just 3 goals through their first three matches, including their 3-0 win over St. Patrick in the second round of pool play of the Jim Wolter Titan Invitational at Glenbrook South in Glenview on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Carson Kowalski is one of the Mustangs' leaders on the back line that includes a seniors Anthony Feather and Gil Aguilera, along with junior Cade McGlothlin. "I'm just trying to keep the back line together with no pockets or space," Kowalski said. "That's what we practice and execute in the games. I do try to think ahead of everybody and we all chip in together." The Mustangs (3-0-1) had a clean sheet from keepers Nathan Espinosa (4 saves) and Angelo Gallardo (2 saves). "I thought we weren't organized defensively in the first half," Mundelein coach Sebastian Falinski said. "But, these guys just don't quit. The last couple of games, we've given up a goal and responded. We just had a great response in the second half." Mundelein scored the opening goal in the 35th minute with 19 seconds left. Matt Daniel took a service from John Chambers and placed the ball into the side netting for a 1-0 advantage. Kowalski set up the second Mustangs goal in the 60th minute off a throw-in that bounced off the head of Omar Mangato. Then, Mundelein added a goal in the final 28 seconds through a combination of passes. Bryan Morales scored off an assist from Frankie Jimenez. "We do have some guys that can win the ball in the air," Falinski said. "We did a nice job of playing against the wind. We take pride with our defense and it was nice to get a clean sheet." St. Patrick (0-3) had some opportunities with the wind in the first half and just couldn't connect with some chances against Mundelein. "That's what has been happening to us over the first few games," St. Patrick coach Kyle McClure said. "We just couldn't convert on our chances. We had more than enough chances to get one or two goals. Soccer is a game of momentum. Mundelein did a good job defensively and they played pretty well as a unit."
