Restaurant Week!
Student Leadership is running a week and a half long event to raise funds for our program and support local restaurants. Our goal is to generate support for local businesses who have been impacted by the pandemic and fund-raise so we can run safe and fun events this year at MHS. Each of these restaurants have generously agreed to donate a portion of their profits to support MHS Student Leadership. So take a break from the hassles of cooking and have someone else cook for you all while knowing that your money is going to a good cause.
In all seriousness, we would love to see these restaurants have a huge influx of business. Carry out is encouraged due to social distancing requirements. Please stop by these restaurants and encourage your family, friends, and students to do the same!
This is something new we are trying and I would love to make this an annual tradition where we pack local restaurants in downtown Mundelein during the week of Homecoming. These fundraisers run all day so you can stop by any of the following restaurants for lunch or dinner. We reached out to a lot of restaurants and these were the restaurants that agreed to participate:
• Luke's - Mon. 9/21
• Gregg's Frozen Custard - Tues. 9/22
• Hitz - Wed. 9/23
• Tina G's - Thurs. 9/24
• Lucky Burger Wed. 9/30

SAT State Testing for Class of 2021
Mundelein High School will be giving the state required SAT to all 12th grade students on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. The class of 2021 (12th graders) are required to take this exam to meet graduation requirements. This exam is also beneficial for college admissions. All 12th graders should plan to come to school on this date to complete the SAT. Details about the exam day will be announced in early October.
Please understand that safety is a priority for this exam administration. Students will be in classrooms of approximately 15 students, be sitting six feet apart, required to wear masks, and required to self-certify that they are symptom free prior to entering the building.
District transportation will be provided for those in need. Please complete this THIS FORM if you need bus transportation to and from MHS on the testing date.
Students that receive College Board approved testing accommodations will receive a separate communication with details for accommodations testing. Most students with College Board approved accommodations will test on October 14th (and October 15th if needed). More details to follow.
If your student will not be participating on this exam day, please fill out THIS FORM by Sunday, September 13, and we will follow up with you as soon as possible. Please know that if your student does not attend the exam on this date, they will have to take the exam in April of 2021 in order to graduate from MHS.
More information regarding testing and logistics will come out closer to the exam date. In the meantime, if you have questions about the SAT on October 14, 2020 please contact your student’s school counselor.
PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for Class of 2022
We are currently scheduled to offer the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Mundelein High School. This exam is being offered free of charge. At this time we can only offer this exam to the first one hundred (100) 11th grade students who sign up. For those students who want to take this exam but do not get in for this administration, there will be another opportunity on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. Once registration is complete, you will be notified which administration date you will be assigned.
Safety protocols will be implemented and explained when we get closer to the exam date. We will be testing in large spaces (North and Main Gyms) with staggered start times unless a student has testing accommodations.
The PSAT/NMSQT is an optional, multiple-choice assessment of verbal, mathematics and writing skills. There are several benefits to taking this exam. Top performing juniors nationally may be eligible for money through National Merit, National Achievement, or National Hispanic Scholarship funds. This is a great opportunity for you to possibly obtain National Merit recognition and scholarship money.
Because of the limited space, please only sign-up if you are 100% sure you are going to take this assessment.
Register HERE for the PSAT/NMSQT at the Google link below by Monday, September 14, 2020.

Newspaper staff earns coveted award from Quill and Scroll
The staff of the student-produced school newspaper, The Mustang, received an International First Place Award from the 2020 Quill & Scroll News Media Evaluation.
“The staff and adviser are to be commended for all the hard work that was put into the publications,” stated the judge’s comments, which also noted, “This was a difficult year for the staff, but the quality of the publication and media site stayed strong.”
Despite ending the year producing two newspaper issues during the COVID-19 pandemic in remote learning, the staff received superior ratings in four out of the five evaluation categories for general practices, coverage, writing & editing and digital media. The staff received an excellent in the fifth category for visuals.
“This was the first year we requested an evaluation of our online presence, so we were pleasantly surprised to see the staff is headed in the right direction with its online news site,” Michelle Didzbalis, adviser of The Mustang, said. “That online presence is going to be more important than ever given our remote learning environment this year.”
The staff’s online publication can be viewed at mhsmustang.com.
The 2019-2020 newspaper staff was led by Editor-in-chief Kylie Carrier and Assistant Editor-in-chief Hannah Stanley. Other editors included Sarah Parduhn,
MacKenzie Stewart, Ashley Cline and Tress Dorfler. Dylan DeBord, Isabella Marotti and Ryan Wilson worked for the paper as staff reporters.
For 92 years, Quill and Scroll has been honoring the best work done by student journalists around the world. The organization provides students and their advisers with resources to do great work and to have it evaluated. Whether it’s through stories, contests, evaluation service, scholarships or pins and graduation paraphernalia, Quill and Scroll salutes great scholastic journalism at their charter schools.

Lake County Hall of Fame
Athletics wanted to share that the 2020-2021 Lake County Hall of Fame Inductee for Mundelein High School is former staff member Frank Giannamore.
F. Giannamore |
Frank was a teacher, guidance counselor, advisor and coach at Mundelein for 47 and a half years. His tenure as a head football coach led him to be selected to the IHSFCA Hall of Fame in 2005. He also was selected to the IWCOA Hall of Fame in 2015 after serving 38 years as an assistant wrestling coach for the Mustangs. Frank was also active in community service projects during his time as an educator at MHS.
We hope to have an event at a home boys basketball game where we are able to honor Frank (If the Pandemic restrictions are lifted). If not we will honor Frank in another way.
