Parents/Guardians encouraged to complete 5Essentials Survey
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to complete the 5Essentials Survey that is now available online. The survey allows for school administrations to learn about the highlights and concerns of parents in their districts. The survey is available in English and Spanish and takes about 10 minutes to complete. Only one parent per household may complete the survey; however, if parents have more than one child who attends MHS, they may choose to participate multiple times.

Please use this URL to complete the survey:  https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/

We look forward to your feedback.

Senior Yearbook Pictures
Because of an unprecedented number of seniors attempting to get their senior portraits taken at the school on Oct. 16, wait times were longer than some of the seniors were able to commit to in order to get their portraits taken.  As a result, VIP will return to the school to get any remaining seniors who have not yet gotten their head-and-shoulder shot for the yearbook (there is no sitting fee).
VIP will be here for seniors only on Nov. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3:25 pm in the Mundelein Room (A201).
This will be only for a head-and-shoulder shot for the yearbook.  It will also be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  As a result, there may be a bit of a wait time, and students should plan accordingly. Please note that the day will be operating on an altered schedule due to a Veterans Day assembly.

Contact the Principal’s Office if you have any questions. 847-949-2200 X1230.

Activities

MHS to host Veterans Day observance Nov. 6; keynote address by Allen Lynch
Nearly 175 veterans and their guests will take part in a solemn Veterans Day observance at Mundelein High School Wednesday, Nov. 6, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Main Gymnasium. MHS holds its ceremony earlier in November so veterans may also participate in local Veterans Day events on Nov. 11, the actual national commemorative day.

Visitors will immediately see hundreds of American flags around the perimeter of the high school building when they arrive.

The ceremony will begin with the veterans being escorted into the gym by the MHS Drumline. Following the singing of the National Anthem the keynote speaker, Allen Lynch, will address the audience. Lynch received the Medal of Honor for his service during the Vietnam War. He is also the author of the book Zero to Hero.

The MHS Honors Wind Ensemble, under the director of Jerald Shelato, will play the “theme song” for each branch of the military. Veterans will stand when the music from each of their branches is played.

Following the ceremony, veterans and their guests will be served breakfast at the District Office adjacent to the high school.

“For many schools, Veterans Day is just a day off from school,” said Chris Lagioia, social studies department chair and coordinator of this event. “Our school administration has chosen to have school on Veterans Day and to host this event as a way for students to understand the history of the country, its military, and why veterans are honored on this special day,” he explained.

MHS to host student charity Variety Show Nov. 7
“A Night At the Safari” student talent show will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 pm in the MHS Auditorium. Tickets are $3 per person admission at the door. All proceeds will go to Ronald McDonald House charities.

The show will include a wide range of showstopping entertainment to include singing, acting dancing and more.

“A Night At The Safari promises to be a great night of entertainment,” said  Nicole Pomerleau, advisor.

Cross Country at IHSA Regionals

With the temperature at 48 degrees to start the race, there were bound to be fast times Saturday morning in the Class 3A Lake Forest boys cross country regional. The runners didn't disappoint. Warren (71 points) stormed to the championship of the nine-team meet over runner-up Deerfield (83 points), third-place Libertyville (89), fourth-place Stevenson (91) and fifth-place Mundelein (107).In a thrilling finish to the 3-mile race on the ground of the East Campus, Mundelein's Dillon Blake (14:36) held off Lake Forest's Nate Schmitt by less than a second for first place as the two runners went step to step until the finish line.Blake's winning time of 14:36 smashed the course record of 14:44. The top six teams and top-five at-large individuals all advanced to the rugged Hoffman Estates sectional next weekend at Busse Woods.

"I wasn't thrilled about my performance (at the North Suburban Conference meet) last week," said Blake, who placed 12th in Class 3A as a junior. "So I knew I needed to be here for the guys today. It's not about me. It's about the team." "We qualified (for sectionals), and that is the most important thing. I'm very happy with our top two runners obviously," Mundelein coach Kurt Rutz said. "It was a great job (by Blake), but I expected it. We had a great workout yesterday and he was fired up. But it's not his best yet. Both of them (Blake and Schorr) are capable of better."

Dillon Blake competes at IHSA Regionals. Blake took 1st place!
