2018-2019 Yearbook
Happy almost summer!
Time is running out: Don’t miss your last chance to pre-order the 2018-19 yearbook. Orders can be placed at Jostens.com for $55.
Yearbook Distribution Information: The first chance students will have to pick up their 2018-19 yearbook will be Thursday, August 8, from 5-7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. After that, students will be able to pick them up in the school bookstore during regular bookstore hours.
Below is more information about our distribution policies.

- Please present a photo ID at time of pick up. A yearbook may not be distributed without one
- Please check your yearbook for any damages before signing off on receipt of it. If damages are noticed at time of pick up and enough yearbooks remain, the yearbook can be replaced. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that damaged yearbooks can be exchanged.
- Upon receiving a yearbook, please initial next to your name on the distribution list that you received your purchased copy.
- Yearbooks will only be distributed to the student whose name appears on the distribution list, the parent or a sibling.
- If your name does not appear on the distribution list, a yearbook will not be distributed without proof of purchase.
- If you believe you have purchased a yearbook but are not on the distribution list, please produce one of the following as proof of purchase:
- A school registration receipt
- An MHS bookstore receipt
- A receipt from Jostens (the publication company)
- If there is no proof of purchase, a yearbook may be purchased for the at-the-door price.

- If a yearbook was not pre-ordered, one may be purchased for the at-the-door price if extra copies are available. A list of who purchased these will be kept for book keeping purposes.
- The school orders a limited number of non-pre-ordered yearbooks. Therefore, these are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis and cannot be reserved. Once sold out, no more yearbooks will be available for purchase.
- If yearbooks are not picked up or purchased at distribution, they may be acquired at the MHS school bookstore.

Summer Reading at MHS
Why?
Summer reading is about holding a book in your hands. Summer reading is about kicking off shoes, staying up much too late, reading all day with no one caring that’s what you’re doing. It’s about rushing through one to get to the next or lingering as long as you want. It’s about vicarious experiences that let us become a girl in the attic, a boy in the wilderness, a kite runner in a far-away land. And that type of reading begins with personal choice. Kylene Beers, 2014
What?
Incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior students are required to read one book of their choice over the summer. Students in Honors and AP classes have additional books they also need to read. Students will participate in a book talk discussion with their peers from other English classes at the beginning of the year.
When?
Students should read their book before the first day of classes in August and be prepared to discuss their books with other students in English class.
Who?
All MHS students read one book of their choice.
All students enrolled in honors or Advanced Placement English courses have additional reading requirements. Click HERE for more honors/AP information.
STEM Scholars Program Connects with Congressman Schneider
Each fall, students that are selected to participate in the STEM Scholars program will have the opportunity to join Congressman Schneider on visits to four STEM-related businesses and facilities during the 2019-2020 school year. On these visits, students will have the chance to participate in discussions with local employees, business owners, and educators, and learn more about the STEM career opportunities in our backyard.
This program is open to all rising Sophomores and Juniors who live in or attend high schools located within Illinois’s Tenth Congressional District. Due to space constraints, we will only be selecting two applicants from each high school for participation in this competitive program.
We are hoping you can help us share this information with your students and encourage them to apply. For more information, please see our press release HERE.
Class of 2020 Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement Announcement
All current 11th grade students are required to have documented proof of receiving the meningoccal vaccine prior to the start of 12th grade year. We ask that you check your records and/or contact your doctor’s office for this proof to turn into the school as soon as possible. Supplies become depleted in late summer and early fall. Please do not risk having your student excluded from school at the beginning of their senior year. You can turn in your documented proof directly to the school nurse or to the front office. Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this important matter.

Files on student H: Drives:
Every summer we clear all student files that reside on their H: drives. Please remind your students that if they wish to keep any of these files, they need to copy them to their own personal flash drives before their last day of school.
Files on student Google Accounts:
Google accounts for those students returning in the fall will NOT be deleted or deactivated. Students will keep their Google accounts (and Chromebooks) including all files & email contained in their Google accounts, until they graduate.
Graduating students will have their network and Google accounts deactivated on August 1st. Those students wishing to take their Google files with them should follow the directions specified at the bottom of our website: http://www.d120.org/technology
If you want to keep student examples of Google files that graduating students have shared with you, you will need to make copies of each file. Once the student’s account has been deactivated, those files that were shared and not copied will no longer be available to you.
