FBLA qualifies for National Competition in Texas
Students and advisors of the Mundelein High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA] traveled to and competed at the State Leadership Conference in Springfield on April 6 and 7. More than 30 members competed, either at the conference or beforehand, in various events that tested their business leadership skills.
Of those who competed, several Mundelein FBLA members placed high enough to qualify, as an individual or as a team, to continue on to the National Leadership Conference. Nationals will be held in San Antonio, Texas June 27 through July 3. “We are so proud of our members for putting in the effort to study, prepare, and compete at the State level, and can’t wait to bring a wonderful group to Nationals,” said FBLA advisor, Sarah Menas.
Mundelein FBLA member Sofia Feijoo also campaigned and was elected as Illinois State Secretary by Illinois voting delegates. Jillian Hoffstadt was awarded a pin for her completion of the Leader level of the Business Achievement Awards, and was recognized for being only one of three Illinois FBLA members to have already completed the final level, the America level, as well. The Mundelein chapter of FBLA was awarded seventh in the Largest Local Chapter award.

Activities
Allied Soccer
The Allied Soccer program allows male and female student-athletes with disabilities who are unable to participate in varsity sports to compete interscholastically.
An integral part of the program are the Allied student-partners (also known as buddies) who may participate in traditional varsity sports at the school. These partners help mentor and encourage the student-athletes both at practice and on the field during games.
The Allied Soccer team is back for another season of unified soccer. We’ve got a great group of student athletes and peer mentors ready to take the field. Attached is the full schedule, which includes two home games in the stadium. Hope to see you there.

- Attendance requirements: On the day of Prom, students attending Prom are expected to be in attendance through the end of the school day (11:25 am) - it is a 1/2 day so all students will be released by 11:25 am - please plan accordingly.

MHS to host annual All Area Art Show
Mundelein High School will host its annual Mundelein All Area Art Show Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the main gym free of charge.
Each year, the MHS Art Department invites each of the feeder schools to participate alongside MHS students in exhibiting their artwork. Those schools include West Oak Middle School, Diamond Lake Elementary, Fairhaven School, Fremont Middle, Fremont Intermediate, Fremont Elementary and Mechanics Grove Elementary School.
The event will include all types of art from painting, jewelry making, photography, sculpture and many more. Mundelein art teachers include David Mork, Jonathan Pruc and Peter Schrenk.
MHS Mental Health and Wellbeing Parent/Guardian Event
On Monday, April 22nd at 6:00pm, MHS will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness parent event. This presentation, scheduled for an hour and a half, will consist of two components: first, volunteers from the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) will give a presentation called Ending the Silence. NAMI Ending the Silence is designed to give audience members an opportunity to learn about mental illness through an informative slideshow, short videos, and a personal testimony from a young adult living with a mental health condition. The presentation outlines symptoms of mental health conditions and gives attendees ideas about how to talk to their children and work with school staff. Following the Ending the Silence presentation, representatives from Mundelein High School’s student services staff will give a brief presentation about MHS’s efforts to inform students about mental health as well as about services provided to MHS students and families. A divine musical comedy coming to Mundelein Theatre
What could be better than big, glitzy song and dance numbers that are the toast of Broadway-style musicals? How about big, glitzy song and dance numbers…with nuns? The current offering at Mundelein High School, Sister Act, will have plenty of both.
The show runs April 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $7 for students, seniors and kids. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mundeleintheatre.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door 45 minutes prior to curtain for each performance.
Written by Alan Menken, Glenn Slater and Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, and based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Trying to work her way to the top in 1970’s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with a very tough gangster named Curtis, and when she witnesses him commit a murder she ends up hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.
“This musical has everything you want in a musical comedy,” said Jonathan Meier, the director of Sister Act. “There are huge production numbers, chase scenes, and beautiful love songs that everyone will enjoy. But at its core, Sister Act is a very heartfelt story of people discovering who they are, and who they can become, and how to accept others for who they are.” Senior Rachel Larson portrays Delores. “I knew that this was a very fun show when it was announced last year that this would be our musical,” stated Larson. “But in working on the show, I have really come to appreciate the wonderful message it communicates regarding how we treat each other as human beings.”
Other seniors in the cast are Sydney Litka (Mother Superior), Natalie Williams (Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours), Anooha Dasari (Sister Mary Theresa), Jake Cumberland (Monsignor O’Hara), Kimberly Barr and Josie Hutson (Featured Nuns), and Alexis Chavez, and Abby Smith (Ensemble). Others in featured roles are Mary McMurray (Sister Mary Robert), Paige Steiner (Sister Mary Patrick), Katie Staroszczyk (Sister Mary Lazarus), Elias Photopoulos (Curtis), Matthew Callas (Eddie), Colby Willis (TJ), Steven Weiss (Joey), Allan Rodriguez (Pablo), Pablin Ibarra (Ernie), Sierra Bouchard (Tina) and Mira Guiritan (Michelle). Other Featured Nuns are Rosy Castro, Joslyn Gange, Laryzza Lazaro, Alexis Lee, Ellie Mellen, Brenda Olayo, Addison Salski and Annalise Welsch. Rounding out the ensemble are Bella Buono, Tori Collins, Lance Evans, Emma Ferrin, Dean Hansen, Ahmad Koya, Derek Lee, Amari Liebe, Brooke Mellen, Gigi Mercado, Katie Myrant, Chris Nacion, Colin Nacion, Megan Saunders, Marta Sikora, Zoe Trahan and Eli Walter. The Production Stage Managers are Isabella Marotti and Becca Panos. The Student Assistant Director is Miriam Mitry.

Graduation practice will be held Thursday, May 2. All graduates are expected to be in the North Gym at 8:50 am in their assigned spot. Please see the attached seating chart. It is imperative that you know which side of the venue (left-yellow, right-red) and which row you are in.
Friday, May 3 is a ½ day with Student dismissal at 11:25 am
All seniors and their parents and guardians are invited to the Senior Honors Ceremony on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00 pm in the MHS Auditorium with a reception to follow in the Cafeteria.
Senior final exams will take place on Thursday, May 9. Thursday, May 9 is a regular schedule day-NO LATE START. Please check with your teachers for information regarding your final exams.
On Friday, May 10, all seniors must report to the North Gym sometime between 7:45 am and noon to pick up their cap and gown and graduation tickets. There will be busing available. All school fees must be paid, all library books and textbooks must be turned in, and all Chromebooks must be turned in or purchased in order to pick up the cap and gown and tickets.
To avoid possible lines on Friday, all tasks except cap, gown and ticket pick up may be taken care of before May 10. If you are exempting from finals-turn in or purchase your Chromebook early!
Graduation is Sunday, May 12 at 3:00 pm at the Sears Centre Arena (5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, Hoffman Estates). Graduates need to report to the Sears Centre by 2:00 pm. Doors open at 2:00 pm. Due to enhanced security at the Sears Centre students will be required to pass through a metal detector and guests may encounter additional security screening. All unnecessary bags should be left at home.

Golf Outing to support football program June 20; early sign-up discounts
Mundelein High School’s Red Zone Club is sponsoring the Second Annual Mustang Golf Scramble to take place at Steeple Chase Golf Club June 20. This is a fundraising event for the MHS football program and new varsity head coach, Vince DeFrancesco, will be on hand to meet the participants.
Individual Golfer/Early Bird cost is $125 which increases to $140 May 1. For foursomes the Early Bird cost is $450 which will increase to $500 on May 1. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the dinner and reception at a cost of $35.
The event will include a four-person scramble format, box lunch and on-course contests. Golf will be followed by the dinner and awards reception, raffle and a silent auction with many items available.
A number of sponsorships are available ranging from $250 to $3,500 which include various benefits. Among them are $1,000 for a Hole in One Contest with a 2019 Ford Mustang convertible as the prize and $750 for a Hole in One contest with two tickets to Super Bowl LIV in Florida.

Information Needed When Calling Student in with Illness
At MHS we have students who, for medical reasons, are highly susceptible to infections and are at a significant risk for their lives due to a rare genetic immune deficiency. We ask for your help in keeping your students home if they have been running a fever with a frequent cough or painful throat. When calling the attendance line for students who need to stay home, please leave a detailed message that includes the specific symptoms and reason for their absence. Please alert the school nursing staff of any new diagnosis of an illness that can be contagious. The families of these highly susceptible students are then able to get added medical treatment to help boost their ability to avoid getting sick if they are aware of a current infectious process. We highly recommend students experiencing illness should not return to school until they are 24 hours fever or symptom free. Students are encouraged to stay in touch with their teachers by email when they are home sick. Accommodations can be made for missed work due to illness.

Class of 2020 Meningococcal Vaccine Requirement Announcement
All current 11th grade students are required to have documented proof of receiving the meningoccal vaccine prior to the start of 12th grade year. We ask that you check your records and/or contact your doctor’s office for this proof to turn into the school as soon as possible. Supplies become depleted in late summer and early fall. Please do not risk having your student excluded from school at the beginning of their senior year. You can turn in your documented proof directly to the school nurse or to the front office. Thank you very much for your prompt attention to this important matter.

The celebration will continue into first period following the Graduation Rehearsal.

Last week we played some of our best volleyball going 5 -2 and finishing 6th at the Lake County Invite. Some of our leaders were Marc Rey with 19 kills and 20 blocks, Eric Morales with 14 kills 33/33 serving, Talon Clausen with 20 digs and 27 assists, Andrew Gibbons with 16 kills and 16 digs, Ty Brua with 17 digs and 30 assists, Martin Carrillo with 51 digs.
This week we are 1-1 with a big win over conference opponent Zion 30-28, 25-9. Eric Morales had 7 kills, Marc Rey and Tyler Vander Ploeg had 5 each. Talon Claussen had 12 assists and Ty Brua had 9, Martin Carrillo went 19/19 serving and had 15 digs, Craig Greene went 5/5 serving and had 7 digs.
We look forward to our first weekend off since the season started. We wish all of you a Happy Easter! Coach Dressen

On April 26th the Boys Volleyball Program is hosting a Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation match -vs- Antioch High School in the Main Gym starting at 5:00 pm. We will have a 50/50 raffle and will be selling the Bear Necessities Bears for a minimum $20 donation. Donations to enter are $3 Kids $5 Adults in place of selling t shirts. We are playing in this benefit in the Memory's of James M. O'Donnell (Father of Senior Maggie O'Donnell who lost his fight to cancer in February 2019), Daisy Morales (Class of 2014 who lost her fight to cancer (Fibrolamellar) on 5-9-18 and sister of Senior, Eric Morales), Noah Baker (son of Maureen Baker, teacher at Mundelein) and Ian Turkula (2013 Graduate, who lost his fight to Brain Cancer in January 2014). Please, partner with the Volleyball Program to Help Fight Cancer and Find a Cure by coming to the match FRIDAY April 26th and giving a donation in memory of those who have lost their fight to cancer and the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
You can make a donation at the bookstore at any time up to the Event. Donations are tax deductible and checks should be made out to the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Boys Lacrosse
Last Saturday, April 13th, was a great all around day for our Boys Lacrosse who hosted a Military Tribute Game against Jacobs Golden Eagles. Not only did they bring home the win, 16-7, but they had the honor of introducing 17 active or retired Military that were in attendance, including two of our own staff members, Kevin Quinn and Head JV Coach Eric Perez. The event included pre game lunch provided by Mission BBQ, a personal meet and greet, and a player escort for the Military on the field for the National Anthem. Team Captain, Cody Cornier's received the honor or escorting two Marines in full uniform on the field, "My favorite part about the event was being able to talk with veterans and current Military and share stories of our different paths and to be able to connect through different experiences."-Cody Cornier.

| After a home game win against the Zion Benton Zeebees on April 17th, the senior starters of the Mundelein Baseball team jump for joy due to a great success.
