A parent survey report will be generated if at least 20 percent of parents respond to the survey. While the parent data will not be made public, the parent report will be made available to the principal, Dr. Anthony Kroll and the superintendent, Dr. Kevin Meyers and will enable them to make considerations based on the responses given by Mundelein parents. Your participation in the parent survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Again, your identity and individual survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
Teachers and 6th through 12th graders throughout Illinois are taking the teacher and student 5Essentials Survey. School-level 5Essentials Reports will be generated if teachers and/or students meet their 50 percent response-rate thresholds. These research-based reports will be sent to schools and districts in May and will also be included in the State School Report Card, released statewide in the fall.
Please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ to take the parent survey.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact 5Essentials Customer Support at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.

Mundelein High School senior, Jisel Gomez, has been selected as a National Hispanic Scholar,
sponsored by the College Board. The selection is similar in level to the National Merit Scholar program and is recognized by universities who will provide scholarships much like they do for National Merit finalists.
Gomez has been involved in a number of activities during her four years at MHS. She is the co-president of Link Crew which she has been involved with for two years, she is the vice president of the Mundelein After School Coalition which she has been on for four years, and secretary of Interact, another of her four-year commitments. She also was a member of National Honor Society, Student Leadership and Best Buddies.
Outside of school, Gomez went on two Mission trips to St. Louis and Detroit Lakes, MN working with the Catholic Heart Workcamp. She was a guest services volunteer at Advocate Condell Medical Center and currently works as a high school page intern at Cook Memorial Library.
Gomez is considering Loyola, Northwestern and the University of Illinois where she will be a pre-med bio major.
“One of my favorite memories from MHS is being part of Link Crew for the past two years and to participate in freshman orientation,” Gomez explained. “There is so much school spirit and excitement among the upperclassmen and incoming freshmen on that day,” she said.

Activities
Mental Health Awareness Week
Mundelein High School is committed to helping every student grow academically, socially, and
emotionally. We understand and appreciate that student well-being is vital for personal success, and we strive to ensure that students develop the social-emotional skills that will help them manage their emotions and navigate their environments.
The week of December 5-9 will be Mental Health Awareness Week at MHS. The theme for this week is Be the Voice, which is the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention’s theme for this year. Our goal is for all students to take away three key messages:
You are not alone
You have support, and
Be the voice
Throughout the week, students will take part in various activities.
You should have received a separate email outlining the activities for the week and sharing resources.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s social worker or counselor.

Jerri Craven Memorial Cookbook and Scholarship fund
To fund a scholarship in her name, Jerri Craven’s friends and family organized the lessons and
recipes that Jerri taught into a cookbook. Countless former students have commented that they still use some of the recipes from class, but they’ve forgotten many others.
This book has a threefold purpose:
- To organize all the unit lessons and recipes that Jerri taught
- To serve as a loving memory of a wonderful teacher and friend, and
- To raise funds in Jerri’s name for an MHS scholarship.
This book is dedicated to all Foods students, past, present and future, at Mundelein High School.
Cookbooks can be purchased online through RevTrak, https://mundelein.revtrak.net/tek9.asp?pg=products&grp=45, in the school bookstore, or Saturday, December 3 at Santa’s Workshop, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the high school for $10.00. Online purchases can be picked up in the bookstore or main office, or shipped for $5.00.
