MHS Hosts IL Representative Carol Sente

This week, Representative Carol Sente visited Mundelein High School to hear from school officials on pressing educational issues such as state testing, financial pressures on schools, school safety, and special education.  Superintendent Dr. Kevin Myers toured the new building with Rep. Sente and discussed how MHS was focusing on authentic real life experiences for students.

Daylight harvesting systems will turn off lights in areas with sufficient sunlight.

Internet Safety Presentation
An Internet Safety Presentation will be delivered to freshman students by MHS staff the week of April 11th. The presentation will cover topics such as; Cyberbullying, Online Privacy, and Inappropriate Content. The purpose of the presentation is to help students understand how to keep themselves safe online as well as what resources are available. Students will be reminded of their support teams at MHS which includes a guidance counselor, social worker and dean of students as well as our school resource officer. The resource for this presentation is NetSmartz, a program of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Cafeteria News
A reminder that Quest has opened the panini grill in the snack bar. Check out the menu for April - chocolate milkshakes will be available online on April 6th! Quest menus are made with fresh ingredients, and offer fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Join us in the cafeteria!

Class of 2017 Senior Portrait Information
Representatives from Visual Image Photography (VIP) will be at MHS on Wednesday, April 6 to present senior portrait information to all Juniors during homeroom. A table will be set up outside the Main Office from 11:30am-2:00pm for students to make appointments.


Recognition

Neukam signs to play football for Coe College




Justin Neukam has signed a letter of intent to play football next year at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During his MHS athletic career, played football, ran track, and was a member of Student Athlete Leadership Team [SALT].

Justin plans to major in physical education and to work as a teacher and coach. He’s looking forward to playing football next year at Coe.

Spring Honors Band Concert
Thursday, April 7th, 7:00pm MHS Auditorium. Featuring the Winners of the Mundelein Concerto Competition:  Rolin Blake (Tuba), Katie Lambert (Trombone). Music Performed will include:  Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, Zacateca’s March by Genaro Codina, Canzona by Peter Menin, and Commando March by Samuel Barber

Evening of Jazz
Saturday, April 9th, DOORS OPEN @ 6pm and the Concert Begins at 6:30pm. This event will feature all four MHS jazz bands performing in a relaxed environment in the MHS Cafeteria.  There will be a Silent Auction and Raffle with a number of items from area Mundelein Businesses.  Please support the Mundelein Community and hear great jazz music! The event is free.

MHS choirs to perform at St. Mary’s in Fremont
Mundelein High School’s Master Singers and Select Women’s Ensemble will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church at 22333 W. Erhart RD. While the


concert is free, donations will be accepted for #BakerBrave, a charity to help support the medical expenses of an MHS staff member and family. The concert is expected to last about 75 minutes with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Some of the pieces to be performed include Until We Sing Again; Hold Me, Rock Me; John Leavitt’s Petite Mass; Praise His Holy Name; Ave Verum; Salmo 150 and others.


Cory Thompson and Stevee Bellas are the vocal directors at Mundelein High School.
“The students began working on this music in January and are extremely excited to present this wonderful night of music at St. Mary’s,” Thompson explained.

Prom 2016
The 2016 Mundelein High School Prom is quickly approaching!  Prom will be held Friday, May 6th, 2016 from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM at the Marriott Lincolnshire in the Grand Marquee Pavilion.  All Mundelein High School Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend.  This year’s theme is An Enchanted Evening.


Tickets will be sold the week of Monday April 11th to Friday, April 29th at the MHS Bookstore.  All student accounts must be in good standing in order to purchase tickets. Students are encouraged to purchase Prom tickets as early as possible. Upon purchasing a ticket, students may designate their seating preferences.  Once designated, seating arrangements cannot be changed.  The price per ticket is $75.00.


NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AFTER FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH
ALL SEATING ARRANGEMENTS ARE FINAL
NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE
STUDENTS MUST ARRIVE AT THE MARRIOTT BY 7:30 PM.

All necessary forms will be available online, in the Guidance Office and in the Bookstore.
Students who are planning to bring a date that does not attend MHS must complete the Application for Admission to Mundelein High School Dance Form found in the Dean’s Office. This form must be completed and approved by the Dean’s Office before tickets are purchased.  The Deans are requesting students who are bringing an outside guest to have forms in one week before ticket purchase.

Remember, no tickets will be sold after April 29th.
·         There will be no transportation provided to the event.
·         Students will be allowed to leave Prom early, but will not be allowed to re-enter.
·         Students must bring school I.D. cards to be admitted to Prom.
·         No temporary I.D.s will be accepted.

CLC Events focus on Careers
College of Lake County to host April information sessions on business and other careers
Careers in fields ranging from business to fire science technology will be the focus of information sessions being offered at the College of Lake County in April. Each session lasts about an hour and includes an overview of duties, a typical day, salary, job outlook and educational requirements. No RSVP is required. Unless noted otherwise, the sessions will take place at the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St. in Grayslake.

Athletics

Boys Volleyball Fundraiser for Bear Necessities
The MHS boys volleyball program will host a Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation match vs. Vernon Hills High School on Wednesday, April 6 at 5:00 p.m. in the Main Gym. This will be a benefit game in memory of Ian Turkula, a 2013 MHS graduate and volleyball player who lost his fight to brain cancer in January 2014. Donations to enter are $3 for children and $5 for adults.

“The donations will represent a remembrance of Ian’s life and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation who supported him and his family during his battle with cancer,” said Head Volleyball Coach George Dressen.

A 50/50 raffle will take place during the evening and Bear Necessities Bears will also be sold for a minimum $20 donation. These Bears are normally given to the children who are fighting cancer.
Donations also may be made any time up to the event date at the MHS bookstore. Donations are tax deductible and checks should be made out to the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Bob Bohl Gymnastics Invite
On Friday, April 8, Mundelein High School will be hosting the Varsity Bob Bohl Gymnastics Invite. The meet will start at 6:00 PM.  On Saturday, April 9, Mundelein High School will be hosting the Fr/Soph Bob Bohl Gymnastics Invite.  This meet will start at 10:00 AM.

Erica Peterson '16 stands in the gymnastics gym after orchesis practice in the morning. She has been in the orchesis show throughout her entire high school experience and this term will be her final show. Group Interpretation takes 8th place at their sectional competition on Saturday, March 19 at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL. The cast includes, Elise Campbell '16, Henry Dumblauskas '18, Joseph Salit '19, Jenna Panos '17, Max Basso '17, Annoha Dasari '19, and Natalie Williams '19. The group was lead and directed by English Teacher, Mark Landuyt. Mr. Landuyt said of the performance, "Although we didn't place in the top 3, it [was] the best performance they ever did.
