Activities

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by Purchasing Yard Sign

Hispanic Heritage Month is almost here, and the Puertas Club students have been brainstorming ways to celebrate!  We are continuing with our Hispanic Heritage Lawn Sign sale that we started last year.  If you are interested in a sign of your own for your home window, they are available in Revtrack !  We have a limited quantity this year, so don’t wait!  Sign pickup will be at the front of the school from 3:00-4:30 on Monday, Sept. 13th.  Thank you as always for your support!

Shield Testing Offered by D120
As part of our COVID-19 mitigation strategy, Mundelein High School will offer free COVID testing for our students sometime after Labor Day weekend.

All students are eligible, regardless of their vaccination status.

This is a voluntary program, requiring a parent’s consent. If you are willing to provide consent for your child to be tested, please complete this questionnaire.  Your child cannot participate unless this form is completed.

We are arranging for non-invasive tests at least once per week at Mundelein High School. Each test will take only a few minutes to administer during the school day. Students will simply provide a saliva (spit) sample. Students should stay hydrated up until an hour before testing. One hour prior to testing, they must not eat, drink, brush their teeth or chew gum.

Results will be available in 24 hours and released to the Illinois Department of Public Health and to Mundelein High School. All information is protected under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).

More details will be available soon on the District 120 website and in emails from the Superintendent’s office.

For any questions about this program please contact MHS Principal Anthony Kroll at info@d120.org .

Information on Expectations when MHS Students are Quarantined

To assist with student expectations while being quarantined for COVID19  related issues, the following information details what to expect.  If your child is quarantined,

  • The school will determine whether or not the student is required to quarantine within 24 hours of the reported illness call out or when a student is sent home due to a close contact or COVID symptoms.
    • Students will not be able to Zoom into their classes until a confirmed quarantine is determined.
  • Students who are mandated to quarantine are expected to Zoom into each of their classes if they are well enough to do so. Each day teachers will change the attendance code in PowerSchool from a Q to a B if quarantined students Zoomed into class. If a Q is in PowerSchool that day for your student(s), it means they DID NOT Zoom into class.
    • All teachers have a Zoom link on their Canvas page for quarantined students.
      • Quarantined students on Zoom will not receive individualized instruction rather they will observe the lesson and access their assignments and resources on Canvas.
      • Canvas is our school wide learning management system that all teachers use to post their weekly assignments. Click HERE for information on parent access to Canvas.
    • There may be some classes, such as P.E. and band, where Zooming into class is not possible. Students should work with these teachers to develop a plan for the days they are not in class.
  • Students are expected to complete all course work assigned during the quarantine. They need to be in consistent contact with their teachers to develop a timeline for work completion.
    • Assignments and any additional resources will be posted on teachers’ Canvas home page.
  • Students can also contact their counselors and/or social workers with additional questions during their quarantine.

Grading Updates for the 2021-2022 School Year

At MHS we believe students’ grades should communicate what students know and are able to do in each course. Tests, quizzes, projects, and performance will serve as the majority of the grade. It is essential that students take the course assessments seriously by preparing for them in advance and meeting all required deadlines.

  • If a student does not do well on an assessment, reassessment will be available this year for all summative assessments.
    • Students need to talk with their teachers to develop a reassessment plan.
    • Students who submit their assessment late may forfeit their reassessment opportunity
  • Final exams might not be administered in all classes. Teachers will communicate the final exam plan to their students.
  • Academic dishonesty is defined by any action intended to obtain credit for work which is not one's own. We take this very seriously at Mundelein High School as students will face consequences for academic dishonesty. Please see the document at the link below for our academic integrity policy.

We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for students to the Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program at Lake Forest Hospital! In addition, the program fosters character and professional development, cultivates life skills, provides community service and leadership experience, and offers mentorship and networking opportunities.

Girls Tennis
Coaches Corner: Shelley Majewski
Varsity Girls Tennis this past weekend, although off to a wet start with our Invite hosted by Vernon Hill High School this past Saturday, we were able to pitch in and get the courts dry and continue play.  The girls all played three matches and gave it their best and bringing home 2nd place was our double duo Teresa Burk and Gabby Lipske, our first medal winners of the season.  Nice job to all the girls and our two managers who not only help but keep the girls spirits up throughout the day!  Thanks to all of you!

Girls Varsity Volleyball
Coaches Corner: George Dressen
Girls Volleyball continues to improve each week! After losing to Grayslake Central and Conant, the Varsity girls took Wauconda to three sets on Friday night. Serving, passing, and serve receive have gotten more consistent as the team puts some game experience under their belts. The Sophomore and JV teams have shown heart and dedication early in the season. Both Freshman A & B teams soundly defeated the Wauconda teams in their matches.  We are all looking forward to competing against Antioch on Friday the 10th and Stevenson on Wednesday the 15th. Go Mustangs!

Boys Cross Country
Coaches Corner: Kurt Rutz
Boys cross country saw action twice this past week on the Waukegan home course, a team favorite.  September 1st the team competed in the Art Campbell County Invitational while on September 8th the team was victorious over Zion-Benton 24-31 (low score wins) for their first win of the season.  Sophomores Jake Hall and Tom Russ have led the team with freshman Marco Delacruz running strong as the 3rd man, and breaking 19 minutes for 3 miles for the first time on the 8th!  Great team effort overall at the start of the season.  Saturday will see the team travel to the Springfield area to compete in the Lanphier Invitational, another Mustang tradition.

What a tremendous atmosphere we had in Mundelein last Friday night! Thank you to all the MHS students, families, and supporters that attended. Congratulations to the Freshman and JV teams for their victories over GLC. The Varsity played a great game, had a terrific comeback, but fell short at the very end. We are extremely proud of their effort and resiliency. We had several Mustangs play great but a special shout out to Omari Rhinehart on a tremendous game! Omari had a rushing touchdown, a kickoff return for a touchdown, and led our team in tackles. Our program has been hard at work, and we are extremely excited to open conference play this week vs Waukegan. We look forward to another electric atmosphere!
 Go Mustangs!
