Congressman Brad Schneider / State Department Spring Internship Opportunities for HS Students
The following programs and internships are being offered by the State Department for High School students this upcoming year.

The Iraqi Young Leaders Program
IYLEP provides an opportunity for 12 United States high school students to join their Iraqi counterparts in a four-week program aiming to develop leadership and peacebuilding skills, foster relationships among youth from different backgrounds, and to promote mutual understanding between the people of Iraq and the U.S. This program takes place domestically in the U.S throughout different program locations in Vermont, a host community, and Washington, D.C. IYLEP is a fully funded program, covering travel, lodging, food, and all program activities. The U.S. students are full participants on the program and have the opportunity to share their own culture with the Iraqi participants while learning more about their counterparts’ cultures and way of life. Through teambuilding activities, dialogue, skills and theme-based workshops, living in dorms and with host families, and meeting teenagers from all over the U.S. and Iraq, participants will gain skills needed for their future education and professional goals. The application is currently open until January 15.  10 Americans will be selected for participation. One of the host communities also will be Chicago, IL this summer.

TechGirls
TechGirls is an international summer exchange program designed to empower and inspire young girls from Central Asia and the Middle East and North Africa to pursue careers in science and technology.
The centerpiece of the program is a weeklong technology camp that provides participants with an in-depth examination of technology-related topics, such as coding and cyber security and engages them in 45+ hours of hands-on instruction. The camp is complemented by additional activities such as site visits to technology companies, leadership clinics, community service opportunities, job shadowing, and cultural events. As part of program follow-on, the TechGirls implement at least one peer training program or service project within their schools and/or communities.
The application will not be open until mid-February (application link will be available at that time). Five Americans will be selected from across the US for both TechGirls NEA and TechGirls Central Asia.

Over the course of the institute, fellows will meet with US politicians, scholars, and journalists. Fellows will participate in debates, practical workshops, and seminars. They will also learn how to organize and participate in community service activities.
The Institute cultural program includes trips to Indianapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington. Athletics

Boys Swimming
Mustangs took 3rd place at the Lake County Invite this past weekend.
Mundelein dropped a lot of times for this early in the year.
The Mustangs had a host of personal bests, which was led by a nice mixture of experience and new faces to varsity.

"Overall we're doing well. We have a bunch of new freshmen making an impact. We've been deep in recent years and are trying to move up," said Mustangs coach Rahul Sethna.
Freshman Omar Fathallah was second in the 100 freestyle (22.16) and swam anchor on the second place 400 free relay, where he joined fellow freshman Aaron Anastos, and upperclassmen Hunter Magee and Ryan Zentz to touch in 3:20.84.
Michael Romero is another talented freshman to look out for in the IM and 100 breastroke, where he finished sixth on Saturday (2:04.84).

Several teams will be competing over the holiday break and would love to have Mundelein fans.
