MHS students won two medals at the Lake County Regional Science Olympiad competition on Saturday.  Though the team did not make it on to the State competition, science fun was had by all.  We hope to grow MHS Science Olympiad into a more competitive team for 2018-19.

NHS to host St. Patrick’s Day Dance for special needs adults 
Mundelein High School’s National Honor Society [NHS] will again host a St. Patrick's Day Dance for the special needs adult community of Lake County.  This dance will take place Friday, March 16 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  at the Regent Center in Mundelein.   “Sponsoring this dance gives MHS National Honor Society students the opportunity to work directly with community members and enjoy an evening of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and the clients of the SRACLC (Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County),” said Nancy Toland who advises NHS along with Jennifer Fallon.

Mayor’s Math Cup Challenge
The 5th Annual Mayor's Math Cup Challenge will take place on Sunday, March 18th, from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. High school students in District 120 can register for one of two divisions: Junior Varsity (grade 9 and 10) or Varsity (grades 11 and 12). A cash prize will be given to the top three winners in each division and each school. A total of 33 individual cash prizes will be awarded!

There will also be a team competition made up of 3-6 students per team. If an individual participant does not have a team, MHS will help create teams for the competition.

El Quinto Desafío Anual de Matemáticas patrocinado por el Alcalde  tendrá lugar el domingo 18 de marzo, de 12:00pm a 4:00pm. Estudiantes de High School  del Distrito 120 pueden registrarse  en una de las dos divisiones:  Junior Varsity (Grados 9 y 10)  o Varsity  (grados 11 y 12). Se otorgarán premios en efectivo a los  tres ganadores principales de cada división y cada escuela. Se otorgaran un total de 33 premios individuales en efectivo!

También habrá una competencia  de equipo  formada de 3 a 6 estudiantes por equipo. Si un  participante no tiene un equipo, MHS ayudara crear equipos para la competencia.

March 17 at CLC: Women’s conference stresses empowerment, healthy living
Defining your own success, and practical topics such as healthy eating and financial planning, are part of the sixth annual “Empowering the Woman in You: Shattering the Glass Ceiling,” a free symposium from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17 at the College of Lake County. The event, which is open to Lake County women age 16 and older, will take place in Lower Level A Wing of the Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. MHS sets Naviance Night for March 20 
Parents and students are invited to take part in “Naviance Night” at Mundelein High School on Tuesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. The event is free.

Naviance is the system used by all students at MHS during their college and career searches, planning and application process. The system offers opportunities for MHS students to explore career interest inventories and research their results, search for colleges based on their interests and goals, plan for their future in a logical and concrete manner and ultimately connect their transcripts and letters of recommendation to their college applications. Many other options are also available through Naviance.

“Interested in learning more? Bring a pen or pencil and get ready to dive into this great program!,” said Andrea Rusk, MHS College/Career Counselor.

Staff Variety Show to benefit local PADS in Lake County
Mundelein High School will host the third annual Staff Variety Show Wednesday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.  Admission for all seats is $2 with all proceeds benefiting PADS in Lake County.

“The show is approximately 75 minutes long and promises to be a lot of fun,” said Jeff Harding, math instructor and organizer of the event.

“A couple last-minute surprise performances are also expected,” Harding said.

For juniors only: American Legion Boys/Girls State applications now available
Spend a week at Eastern Illinois University this summer in a mock government setting as you run for office, write legislation, and meet students from all across Illinois. All expenses paid by the american Legion and Auxiliary. Find out more in the Literacy Center. Essays due March 21.

Important Calendar Information
All 11th graders will take the SAT on Wednesday April 10th at MHS.  All 10th graders will take the PSAT 10 (practice SAT) at MHS on April 10th.   On Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, all 10th and 11th grade students are required to arrive no later than 7:45 am.  Busses will only pick up 10th and 11th graders at their regular Schedule “A” time.  Students will meet in their assigned testing rooms to complete required paperwork for the PSAT 10 or the SAT exam. Students in 9th and 12th grade will be picked up at their normal late-start time for starting school at 9:25 AM.

Boys Water Polo 
The Mustangs ousted the state qualifying team Trevians from New Trier this past week in a last second save by goalie Shane Stanley and a last second goal by Matt Allore. Job well done!

Congratulations are in order to Kyle Ehemann. Kyle has committed to continuing his education and compete in diving at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Congratulations Kyle.

Original Mustangs Mural was a contracted painting in 2003.

The School Improvement Committee, a principal's committee consisting of MHS students from all grades, inspired the naming, branding, color, and photos for this new mural.
