Recognition


FBLA students capture many awards at area competition 
Mundelein High School’s Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA] group took part at an Area Competition held at Wauconda High School Jan. 28 and brought home a number of awards. While there, 53 members did well enough to qualify as either a team or an individual to continue on to State competition to be held in Springfield April 6 and 7.



Sophomore Sofia Feijoo campaigned and was elected to the position of Area Vice President for the Northern Illinois FBLA region. MHS took home the following awards for competitive events:
First Place:  Tyler Collins, Business Calculations; MacKenzie Stewart, Business Law; Jillian Hoffstadt, Sales Presentation.

Second Place:  Sahil Patel and Thomas Riggio, Global Business; Justin Park, Introduction to Business; Sydnie Mathews, Journalism; Liam Guiritan, Networking Concepts.

Third Place:  Natasha Kumar, Business Communications; Michal Gryga, Cyber Security; Derek Lee, Introduction to FBLA; Christine Espinosa, Kavana Belagur and Taneesha Tavkar for Website Design.

Fourth Place:  Ryann Ray, Business Calculations; Xavier Greene, Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure; Josephine Hutson, Journalism; Hunter Magee, Personal Finance.

Fifth Place:  Kendall Job, Business Communications; Matthew Pawlowski, Cyber Security; Nathan Clapp, Introduction to Financial Math; Kate Fladhammer, Public Speaking.

Sixth Place:  Allan Rodriguez, Kaithen Hoferitza and Sofia Feijoo for Broadcast Journalism; Colin Geary, Economics; Yasmeen Fathallah Rivera, Christine So for Emerging Business Issues; and Sydney Szalinski, Journalism.

Eighth Place:  Gertrude Palillo, Health Care Administration; Justin So, Public Speaking; and Parker Geary, Accounting.

Activities


A crazy comedy at Mundelein Theatre
What is the perfect remedy for winter the blahs? How about a hilarious romp through the mind of a playwright who can’t shake his writers block? Mundelein Theatre will present Figments, by Billy St. John on the Mundelein High School Auditorium stage on February 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and February 9 at 3:45pm Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The matinee performance on Friday is only $1 for MHS students. Additionally, there will be a performance on February 10 at 2 p.m. which will feature the understudy cast of Figments. Tickets can be purchased at the box office 30 minutes prior to each performance. Seating is general admission, and the theatre will open 20 minutes prior to each performance. Figments  is the story of Rick Jacobs, a playwright with a wild imagination-perhaps too wild. As his thoughts bounce between his frustrating love life and the play he is struggling to write, the real people and the figments of his imagination come together and clash in hilarious combinations.
Seniors in the cast are Dan Haller, Maddie Martorana, Joshua Saunders, Emily Saunders, Ryan Story, Brianna Moderhack, Ginny Zundel and Henry Dumblauskas.  Rounding out the cast are Jake Cumberland, Sydney Litka, Colin Nacion, Natalie Williams, Halli Carpender and Allan Rodriquez.  The stage manager is Josie Hutson and the assistant directors are Rachel Larson and Miriam Mitry.  The understudy cast consists of Matthew Callas, Sierra Bouchard, Katie Staroszczyk, Colby Willis, Mary McMurray, Trevor Freeman, Steven Weiss, Annalise Welsch, Bella Buono, Roy Dumblauskas, Charlie Dennis, Alexis Lee, Brandon Neyzelman and Ashley Carrier.  The understudy Stage Manager is Joslyn Gange.

2018-2019 Registration
Online registration for the 2018-2019 school year has begun.  Information and registration codes (Snap codes) have been mailed home to all current students. To complete registration, follow this link:. https://www.d120.org/about-mhs/student-registration/ You may upload proof of residency documents via the online registration program, mail them in, or have your student bring them into the Main Office. Parents and guardians of current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors must complete registration online and provide residency documents by May 23, 2018. Payment of 2018-2019 School fees
Payments received by March 31, 2018 will be at the early rate of $250.00. Payments received after March 31, 2018 will be at the standard rate of $275.00. Student Leadership
Student Leadership is partnering with the MHS Athletic Department to host the first  annual Pack the House event for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams against the Libertyville Wildcats. On February 7th, Mundelein Girls Basketball Pack the House will take place in the Main gym; the Junior Varsity game starts at 5:30pm and the Varsity game starts at 7pm. The girls team will also celebrate their Senior Night.  On February 13th, Mundelein Boys Basketball Pack the House will take place in the Main Gym; the Boys Sophomore game starts at 5:30pm and the Varsity game starts at 7pm. Students who arrive prior to the 2nd quarter of the Varsity games will be entered to win great raffle prizes, including MHS spirit wear, concession voucher, a basketball signed by the varsity team, and VIP seating. Students selected prior to the game will compete in a dance-off and free throw competition to win awesome prizes and bragging rights.



Casino Royale Winter Dance Feb. 24
Tickets will go on sale on Wed., Feb 7 for the Winter Dance sponsored by student leadership. Early ticket purchasers will be entered into a drawing to win a gift certificate to Maggiano’s. Tickets $10 through Feb. 14; $12 Feb. 15-21. New this year: karaoke and other activities in the cafeteria. Student song request stations available during lunch periods before the dance.



Calendar Corrections and Updates!!!

Spring Testing
Please note, MHS will host spring testing on April 10, 2018.  11th grade students will take the SAT and 10th grade students will take the PSAT.  9th and 12th grade students will not have school on this day.

Get ready for SAT
Juniors: Register for free SAT prep at MHS. Pick morning or afternoon sessions, starting Wed., Feb. 7. Sign up online on the MHS website under Testing. More information available at the Literacy Center and Math Lab.
Semester 2 Parent/Teacher Conferences 
In order to facilitate the improvements to Parent/Teacher Conferences, the spring conferences have been changed.  MHS will NOT hold conferences on March 6.  March 6 will be a regular attendance day.  Rather, conferences will be moved to March 8 and 9. 

March 8 Thursday
Students are dismissed at 11:25AM.  Teacher work time from 12:30pm til 3:25pm.
P/T conferences will run from 4pm until 7pm.

March 9 Friday
No school for students
P/T conferences will run from 9am - 2pm.
The total number of conferences will increase from 27 to 38 possible conference times.

Wrestling
More from the Lake County wrestling:
Undefeated Mundelein senior Dane Durlacher (36-0) continued to shine with a 5-1 decision over Warren's Sawyer Nash for first place at 106 while the Mustangs also got a first-place medal from 182-pounder Logan Kvien (30-4).

"I'm definitely happy because we only brought 10 guys so to finish fifth is really good," said Mundelein coach Craig Stocker. "Dane is a tough wrestler, he's put a lot of time in, and he's going to put himself in a spot to do well in the state series."

Congratulations Senior Dane Durlacher becomes MHS second winningest wrestler in School history with 124 career varsity wins which includes a 37-0 record this year through the end of the regular season.

Gymnastics
Competing for the NSC championship Mustangs kept it’s grip by winning the league championship for a fifth straight year. Coach Piland: "It was awesome to beat Stevenson. What I've been telling our girls all year long is that we expect to win conference. It was expected, and it was close -- but we're not done. We need to move on from here and do better." JV team also won 1st place! Congrats to both teams.





Varsity Gymnastics took 2nd place at the Deerfield Regional! MHS Girls Gymnastics top performers and advancing to Niles North Sectionals:
Audrey Kafka, Amanda Muench, El Mischler, Katie Miller, and Emmal Hallin.




Winter Guard
Competed at Romeoville and went home with 3rd place.



Dance
Varsity traveled to ISU for the IHSA Dance State contest. Our Mustangs took 9th place in a very competitive state series. Congratulations!




Cheerleading
Belvidere North was the host for Sectionals this past weekend. Mustangs went home in 7th place.

Basketball
The Girls and Boys basketball teams participate in their Breast Cancer Awareness game vs Stevenson. The night was a fundraiser benefiting the Lynn Sage Foundation.
