After many decades, the outside pool building has been removed. In the 1970's, the Mundelein Park District built the community pool and pool house. The pool was closed in the late 1990's when Barefoot Bay was built at it's current site. This week, MHS was able to remove the building and hopes to create an area for outdoor receptions.

Recognition
Congratulations to Cory Thompson and Ryan Buck
Staff members Cory Thompson and Ryan Buck ran the Chicago Marathon last weekend. Cory raised $11,000 in donations to the American Cancer Society Determination program. This was her 11th marathon and she ran in honor of her parents who are both cancer survivors.

Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble performed at the Mundelein Seminary on October 15th as part of the Mundelein Community “Americana” at the Mundelein Seminary Concert. The concert proceeds benefited the Old Number One Preservation Committee.

The Jazz Ensemble has been invited to perform at the Chicago Jazz Showcase on Wednesday, November 8th. The Jazz Showcase is one of the premiere Chicago jazz venues. The Mundelein Jazz Ensemble will open for the Bob Lark Alumni Big Band. We would love to see you there!
Variety Show
The Variety Show is on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 at 7PM. Tickets are $2 per person. There are 17 student performances, ranging from dance to vocal performances to instrumental performances and more. Raffle tickets will also be sold. $1 for 1 ticket, $5 for 6 tickets, and $20 for 25 tickets. Raffle prizes include VIP tickets to future dances, a 2018-2019 parking permit, gift baskets from local businesses, and gift certificate packages. All proceeds will go to the Red Rage Relief Fund to help those affected by recent hurricanes.
New Faces to take over the Mundelein Theatre stage
The future of Mundelein Theatre will be on display on the Mundelein High School stage at the end of October. Cinderstein, a comedy by Kamron Klitgaard, will be presented as the school’s New Faces Production. The cast is made up of 28 freshmen and sophomores, as well as juniors and seniors who have never appeared on the MHS main stage. The show will be performed on Friday, Oct. 27 at 3:45 and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The matinee performance on Friday is only $1 for MHS students. Tickets can be purchased at the box office prior to each performance.
Cinderstein has been described as wacky, crazy, family fun. A local high school drama teacher has written his own version of Cinderella by combining the Princess’s tale with the story of Frankenstein, but the production is bombing. The Fairy Godmother wants to be called the Fairy Goshmother, three new stepsisters must be added to the cast, several actors quit, and the extras are fed up with being extras. When Dr. Frankenstein drops Cinderella’s brain and replaces it with a cat’s brain instead, this insane production changes beyond even the director’s recognition.
“I am very excited to be directing this year’s New Faces show,” said Jeff Harding. “This show provides a great opportunity for the younger performers in our school to get a positive experience in the theatre. Since this is a no-cut show, everyone who auditioned got a role on stage,” Harding said. “It is such a thrill on my part to get the chance to work with these young actors and help them to hone their skills as they prepare for future roles in our mainstage performances,” he explained.
Sophomore Katie Staroszczyk, an actor in the show, added, “This show is absolutely crazy and wonderful. It’s wacky which I think is good for beginning acting because it helps new actors get out of their comfort zone and come to terms with being completely ridiculous.”

Hispanic Heritage Month
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, MHS hosted a career panel represented with 12 successful Latino professionals. The panelists shared their customs and traditions that have guided them in their pathway to success in education and in their professional goals. Students were inspired as they interacted with the panel and then celebrated with churros and horchata. Over 400 students participated in the event.

Boys Cross Country
The Varsity boys took 2nd to Lake Zurich in the Conference meet tonight, 44-54. Robert St. Clair led the way for our Mustangs taking 4th in 14:57. Dillon Blake had his best race in a few weeks, taking 9th in 15:16. Aidan Afonso was next in 12th, running 15:29. Mikey Parduhn fought through a stomach ailment to take 14th in 15:37, followed closely by Carl Schoenfield in 15th, running 15:37. All 5 Mustangs received All-Conference honors. Congratulations, Mustangs, and on to Regionals!
In a bit of a surprise, the F/S squad won the Conference title. We had no idea until they split the JV and F/S scores. Aaron DeLara led the way in 2nd, with Trevor Werner in 3rd, Cale Sethna in 4th, Robert McKee in 5th, and Carter Schorr in 9th. This is the 2nd straight year we have won the F/S conference title. Great job. Mustangs! The future continues to be bright!

Boys Soccer
Congratulations to the Varsity boys soccer team for advancing to the Regional Finals on Saturday 10/21/17. The mustangs defeated Lake Zurich in double OT winning 5-4 to advance. Saturday’s game is at Libertyville High School at 1:00pm. Admission is $5.00 for all….no passes accepted. Go out and cheer your mustangs on to a victory Saturday!
