It was an exciting week with athletic playoff competitions, College Week, National Honor Society Induction, a visit from an international educational author, the presidential debate and the CUBBIES!!  There are so many things to celebrate about what is happening at MHS, one can't help to smile.  Read on and see what is coming up next week!

Activities


Red Ribbon Week - October 23-31
The National Family Partnership organized the first Nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign. NFP provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Campaign™. Class of 2017 Graduation Cap & Gown orders
All seniors will attend a meeting during Homeroom on Wednesday, October 26 to receive information and order the graduation cap, tassel, alumni medal, and rental gown. MHS graduates rent a custom gown which is returned after the ceremony on graduation day, and purchase the cap,and tassel. Mundelein High School supplies an alumni medal on a fabric cord that is worn on graduation day, and can be used as a keychain after graduation.

Seniors will also receive a packet of information, and order forms for graduation supplies including announcements, commemorative tassels, picture frames, and more.

Herff Jones; our graduation supply vendor will be at MHS on Tuesday November 1 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday November 2, and Thursday November 3 during all lunch periods to take orders for class rings, graduation announcements, and other graduation products (not cap & gown).

21st Century Automation Night - November 1st
We welcome all students and parents who are interested in learning more about engineering and
manufacturing to join us for the 2nd Annual 21st Century Automation Night!  You will hear about exciting opportunities for those interested in 4-year college programs, as well as those looking for a great career that could begin right after high school.  You will also have a chance to talk with people that are currently working in these exciting fields.

The evening begins at:  6:30 PM on Tuesday, November 1st in the MHS Auditorium

USG representatives to meet with MHS nanotechnology students
Several representatives from USG, a locally-based products and solutions corporation, will spend some time with students in Joe Maxwell’s Nanotechnology and Research class Friday, Oct. 21, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. They will speak about the USG advanced manufacturing initiative and the Corporate Innovation Center and also how STEM plays a part in the everyday world with specific examples.

Speakers will include:

Mundelein Theatre
Next up for MUNDELEIN THEATRE is their New Faces production.  This show features freshman and sophomores, as well as junior and seniors who have not appeared in a mainstage production at Friday, October 28 at 3:45 and 7 pm, as well as Saturday, October 29 at 7 pm.  Over 30 MHS students appear in the show.
MHS.  The New Faces show this year is Completely Hollywood (abridged).  The show runs on

Developed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), this play boldly goes where few would dare - Tinseltown!  In this seriously silly show biz satire, this play will cut through the celluloid to condense the 186 greatest films in Hollywood's over 100-year history into a complete compilation of classic cinematic clichés - plus a few brand new clichés.

Fall Jazz Concert 
Mundelein High School’s instrumental music department presented a Fall Jazz Concert Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium featuring the Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Orchestra.
Some of the featured selections are from the Buddy Rich Big Band, Sammy Nestico, Trombone Shorty and the Alan Baylock Orchestra.
Andy Sturgeon and Jerald Shelato direct the instrumental program at MHS.

Sunday Spooktacular
1 mile run and other fun activities for all ages will be held on Sunday, October 30 from 4:00pm-

College Week
College Week at MHS is wrapping up with Seniors celebrating the completion of their college applications and their acceptance into a variety of colleges and universities!  We had an amazing week - check out some of the pictures below.





FAFSA Completion Workshop


A free workshop to help students and/or parents complete financial aid forms and apply for many types of financial aid will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Mundelein High School. The workshop, to be held in rooms C-103 and C-104 in the new addition, will be presented in both English and Spanish.

Attendees will get help in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] which is also available here. This form is required to be considered for state and federal financial aid programs.

Those attending the workshop should bring student and parent 2015 tax forms, driver’s license or state ID and social security card and recent bank statements.  Also needed are information about assets such as savings, certificates of deposit, stock options, bonds and investment real estate, business and farm. If possible, completing the FSA ID in advance would save time in completing the workshop. Instructions can be found here.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission [ISAC], local financial aid experts and ISAC-trained volunteers will be available to answer questions. Members of the MHS Guidance Department will also be available.

SAT or ACT?
Attention Soph/Juniors:  On ​November 12th​ there will be a Free SAT/ACT Combo Practice Test held by Kaplan Test Prep to help students decide between the SAT or ACT.  Participants will receive their scores instantly.  The practice test will be held at ​North Central College at 9:00am or the Downers Grove Kaplan Center at 2:00pm as well as Live Online options​. Oct. 21: Man Up Male Success Conference at CLC
High school and college males are invited to attend the Seventh Annual Man Up male student success conference sponsored by the College of Lake County from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. This free event begins in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St. The conference includes a variety of success workshops and lunch.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, is a nationally known presenter, instructor and author in the field of higher education. He is a professor of higher education at Ohio State University, where he is director of the Center for Higher Education Enterprise. Strayhorn will speak on what colleges can do to boost the success of men of color.

Workshops will cover the male ego, male stereotypes and the media as well as practical topics such as how to enroll at CLC, start a bachelor’s degree program and pay for college.

Boys/Girls Water Polo
Abigail Lukas & Nick Oleinik were just named USA Water Polo Outstanding Academic All-Americans for 2015-16. This award recognizes the best and brightest student-athletes within the USA Water Polo community. Abigail and Nick’s dedication to achieve excellence is evident in their pursuit of this prestigious award.

Boys Golf
Congratulations to the Varsity Golf team for a fine showing at their first ever trip to State! We are PROUD of you!

Girls Tennis
Congratulations to Isabel Alviar (So)  who is headed to State! Varsity tennis 4th place at Sectionals.


Boys Soccer
Boys soccer competes this weekend in Regionals vs. Wheeling at Lake Forest H.S. on Saturday, October 22 at 6:00pm. $5.00 admission-no free student entrance or passes for regional, sectional or state contests.

Varsity Girls took 5th in the Conference! 
Andrea Cordova (So) medaled 13th with a time of 20:01.8 (All- Conference)
Clarissa Wienckowski (So) medaled 14th with a time of 20:12.8. (All-Conference)

Frosh./Soph. Girls took 3rd in the Conference!
Jeanelle Jimenez (Fr) medaled 5th with a time of 21:12.8, Claire Schoenfield (Fr) medaled 7th with a time of 21:51.8, Leslye Rodriguez (So) medaled 10th with a time of 22:07.5

Shout out - Andrea Cordova had one of her racing spikes fall off within the first minute of the Varsity race on Saturday. After putting the shoe back on, she was in last place with 2.75 miles to go. In a tremendous display of composure, she gradually clawed back, moving up a couple of places each mile to be All-Conference as a Sophomore. This was great adversity for her to face before the IHSA State Series and she showed amazing determination!

Boys Cross Country
This weekend the boys took 2nd in the Varsity Conference Meet with 75 points. 
The following achieved All-Conference Status-
Ben Krauss. (Sr)- 8th, Robert St. Clair, so-  11th, Alan Salgado, (So)-   12th, Michael Parduhn, (So)-18th

Frosh./Soph. boys team won the Conference Invite with 24 points.

On the day of the last presidential debate, juniors Molly Mishler, Gillian Beginski, and Allison Nick lay on a blanket in room A106 for the debate party. Every year, Mr. Kuhn (social studies department) holds a debate party. This year, it was organized by his students. Nick helped organize the event, "I think the debate party was a good way to get students involved in politics because students that may have not normally chosen to watch the debate did.
