STEM Programming @ MHS

Nanotechnology is a growing field embedded within science certifications and degree programming at the university level. This branch of technology deals with dimensions and tolerances at the atomic or molecular level.  For example, in industry today, nanotechnology is used from developing new treatments of surfaces (paints, waterproofing), printing more energy efficient circuitry for electronics, tracing blood flow, and delivering cancer medications to a specific location.

With the new classroom facility being built, MHS will be able to offer students experiences in nanotechnology using industry standard tools with industry standard techniques.  One tool students will work with is called a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) which allows the operator to "see" details at a magnification of billionth of a meter.  This devices is already on campus and students are becoming more familiar with it.  After viewing a few SEM photographs below, it is easy to see how this tool could aide our students in research they conduct.
